“Less than satisfactory”
Review of United Airlines

Reviewed 4 April 2019 via mobile

UA has the unfortunate distinction of just being a tad above dis-satisfying. Even if you purchase premium economy, their new aircraft is not accurately reflected on their site nor their app, so you end up being sat in the not-premium seats. Annoying. The in-flight service is also less than adequate. Could the food and beverage service be any less appealing? I flew business on the way out, but again question the ridiculous spend on the “bedding.” Who needs a blanket AND a small comforter (?) on a flight. UA could have saved itself, and therefore its passengers from that meaningless spend. Finally, having flown Asia-based airlines (Singapore, Royal Thai, Korean Air), I know how superb flight attendants can be - UA crew is not up to par.

I flied UA872 from Taipei to SFO on the 4th of Mar.,
Shortly before landing, I felt dizziness and lost my consciousness completely.
I was already admitted in the emergency center of San Francisco general hospital when my consciousness was recaptured.
During such traumatic and critical periods, it was all due to the professional and passionate endeavors from relevant employees of United Airlines that I may keep my life. I am so grateful !
Also, during my three days hospitalization, there was a lady staff representing United Airlines called me every day to keep abreast of my situation and tried to reserve the seat for my next flight for Vancouver.
The whole services, care, professionalism, passion to help from United was amazing, unforgettable...far beyond my expectations.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest appreciation for those ‘unsung heroes ‘ who help and save my life.
Also, as a wanderlust and frequent flyer,
I would like to recommend United Airlines as a top-notch and most ‘human touch’ airline.

I have had 3 back operations and walk with a rolling walker to help my stability. My husband has requested help with bags and a wheel chair as I surrender my walker to baggage. Both airports were very helpful having transport ready at the plane and following through to the baggage claim. They were patient and polite and very helpful for stops to purchase food and restrooms. We have chosen this extra help for a few years and makes travel less worrisome for us.

It just seems that United Airlines is always having delays. Granted some are from unavoidable weather conditions, but having a hole in the nose of the plane is another thing. My other issue with United is that, on some flights, the crew is great, while on others (more times than not), the crew is just arrogant.

Last week I traveled to Washington on business and chose to fly United thinking it would be the least bad of 3 choices. Flying into Regan from SAN requires a layover, which has worked out poorly for me in the past. Alaska flies direct to Baltimore from SAN, but only offers redeye flights going eastbound. So, I chose to fly with United into one of my least favorite airports in the U.S. It would turn out to be a big mistake.

On the IAD->SAN leg, I sat in seat 2E of a heavily worn down 737-700. Only the first 23 rows have in seat power, and my outlet was broken and dangling out of its socket (probably dangerous, but I didn't say anything since I just wanted to get home). Even the first class seats are slimline with almost no padding and my butt was totally numb by 1 hour into the 5.5 hour flight. This kind of aircraft should be limited to 2 hour or less regional flights.

The only In Flight Entertainment (IFE) was available on your personal device. Also, the WiFi I paid for barely worked for much of the journey. If you were not in First or Economy Plus and fortunate enough to be seated somewhere with a functioning outlet, United would not provide any means to keep that device charged.

The first class flight attendant was pleasant, but it didn't make up for the misery of no IFE and an uncomfortable seat for such a long flight. The meal was also the worst I've had in at least 5 years of frequent travel. It was the most foul tasting ravioli I've ever encountered, and I subsequently declined any snacks and stuck to liquid.

The rest of the United staff was cold, bordering on rude. Even in the premier access check-in, you have to use an electronic kiosk to tag your own bags. So much for a first class experience. Maybe call it something else to make clear your privileges are limited to a tiny bit more space and a free meal that you don't want to eat.

I had taken a 2 year hiatus from United after a number of bad experiences, and I will now return to that hiatus until I see evidence of major improvements.
