“Nothing special, BA shouldn't worry”
Review of Virgin Atlantic Airways

Reviewed 15 June 2024

Flew Virgin to New York (Premium Class). It was ordinary, no better and worse than their big rival British Airways.

Cabin was fine, enough space but no extras (I recall at least getting a bottle of water on a BA Premium Economy flight). Prosecco pre flight drink ordinary.

Crew were friendly and helpful (really ill fitting uniforms for female cabin crew!).

Food was awful, ordered a low fat meal which was curry (?!) and inedible. Partners 'pre-chosen from menu' meal was not much better. Second 'low fat' high tea offering was as bad but crew took pity and offered me the menu dish which was actually okay.

Entertainment was plentiful some current films but a lot old ones too and music playlist was very extensive but a lot of rather obscure artists.

The much vaunted 'wonder wall' snack offering is a joke - a little wicker basket with a few bags of crisps and some shortbread biscuits - no drinks found.

Took off late but arrived ahead of time but sat on plane for nearly an hour whilst a gate came free at JFK. And our luggage arrived with us.

Virgin Atlantic cancelled our flight home from montego bay less than an hour before our 16.30pm flight, we received NO information until suddenly at 15.45pm the flight board went from on time to cancelled in a matter of minutes, the boarding gate team were very unhelpful and rude, it wasnt a case of not committing to any information they were unorganised and had no strategy in place to cope with over 200 very confused passengers, we were taken on a very long walk around the airport, they were more interested in taking our duty free purchases off of us and piling them into a room with no organisation, we were taken back through passport control again and pushed out into the very hot arrivals car park still with no information on what was happening to us, no water supplied, there were families with young children, passengers with mobility problems and no one to push their wheelchairs, they were lined up and just left, no dignity or any team members to help them. After nearly an hour buses arrived to ship us off to 2 hotels, again no information from the virgin Atlantic team, no information on alternative flights etc, arrived at our hotel had to queue for an hour and a half to check in, still no virgin Atlantic rep at the hotel, we were then told to go online to "my booking " to find an alternative flight, there wasn't any information on there for 6 hours for some of the guests and no information on flights for us and many others for over 8 hours, we didn't get offered another flight until the following morning which was for Thursday or Saturday, we had to call virgin Atlantic ourselves to find another flight for Wednesday, we booked ourselves on this flight which was at 16.30pm only to find out a bit later on that this flight was now delayed by 2 hours, we were then dumped at the airport 4 and a half hours before our flight, finally our flight took off nearly 3 hours late, the 2 meals were disgusting no snacks at snack wall and only zero cola or tonic water at the snack wall, the crew came around twice during the flight with drinks, appreciate it was a night flight, but all the same very poor, we asked for a coffee and this didn't happen. We had a whole holiday cancelled by virgin Atlantic last year, but to our better judgement we decided to go with virgin Atlantic again and gave them a second chance, what a mistake that was, we have incurred extra charges for airport parking and a days loss of earnings which we will be claiming for and we expect compensation. We will never fly virgin Atlantic again and yes that is their loss as we are frequent travellers, absolutely disgusted with virgin Atlantic...

The staff is mean. I would not go again and do not recommend. There is not a lot of space between the seats. It is very bad and poorly.

It's always the left turn that lifts the mood while boarding and the relative ease of checking in and boarding which accompanies the 'Upper Class' ticket - a phrase that always reminds me of the John Cleese and 2 Ronnies sketch. The seat configuration is fine and my wife and I were side by side for the outbound but not inbound. The service is fine although I didn't like the lying position when the seat became a bed. I much preferred sitting and on the inbound flight I movie gorged which was fine as the selection is plentiful. The meals were perfectly acceptable. Is it worth the price? For the relative ease of access alone it is worth a think if the bank balance or boss allows.
