Review of Virgin Atlantic Airways

I booked 4 tickets through Delta several months before our trip. As Virgin Atlantic flies for Delta, we were at a loss for several things. First, upon purchasing the tickets, the website stated I would be able to select seats when I checked in online. That was not so. When I arrived at JFK I went to Delta desk and the supervisor at first wasn't able to pull up seat selections but then got 2 boarding passes and seat selections. When the other 3 people arrived at the airport, Delta wouldn't help them and then they went to Virgin Atlantic desk. They couldn't check their bags for several hours even thought they were checked in. Finally after much confusion, we all had our tickets and were ready for our flight. I received a text from the taxi driver for LHR asking the time of our arrival as they had information stating a much later time of arrival. All Delta and Virgin Atlantic boards still said the original time. This was 6AM. Several hours later, and after no less than 7 gate changes, we were on our way at the time of arrival of the taxi driver. It appeared the right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing for this entire mess. I have my doubts if I would ever fly Delta again or Virgin Atlantic. The ony good thing I can say about the flight, we landed in one piece and the crew were very efficient and pleasant.

We booked a trip for two to jamaica through the bahamas (9+hrs). We ended up having to change our dates so we paid 560 pounds for 2 people and purchased a bag as well and the airlines did not even allow us to sit together on the plane. We asked other people who havent paid for anything extra (nor seats) and even they got to sit together. Next to me there were two people who didnt know each other so its not like they couldnt make couples sit together for such long flight. Honestly so unreasonable and nonsense.

Return flight home - gate staff had slightly better control for boarding than they had at Heathrow. However, it was a difficult process. Our plane was parked in what could have been New Jersey, it was so far away from the terminal. No kidding, it took a good 15-20 minutes on a bus to reach it. And then there was a three storey covered staircase to climb to get into the aircraft. Mobility issues be damned. The captain apologised saying in all his experience had never had his plane be located so far away from the terminal. So of course it took ages to get everyone on board and we missed our slot and blah blah blah!

Fortunately we had a projected flight time of 6hrs 15 minutes which sounded good and an accurate prediction.

Flight was uneventful, as coming out to NYC. And again, no better, no worse than BA. We were on an A330-900 neo (better than the A350-1000 we went out on) and it was quite comfortable, quiet with a smaller passenger capacity. Crew were friendly but a bit harried we thought having to perform a full service in a shorter time than maybe normal?

I'd tried to cancel my low fat meal as it was so damn awful going out but the Virgin web site was uncooperative. When it arrived, it looked marginally better than the UK produced one but I didn't want it. Fortunately an obliging steward found me a spare vegetarian meal instead and it was at least edible.

Entertainment was again fine, again quite a few obscure music choices. The screen looked larger on this plane than the one we flew out on. There was a very limited take up on the breakfast service I noticed, it did arrive not long after they'd cleared dinner. We didn't have anything. The toilets did deteriorate on the flight and were just beginning to get unpleasant to use before we landed. And the so called "wonder wall" snack bar was as bad as going out.

What an excellent experience we had from Check in to debarking.
The Club House is sensational. A massive shout out to Roberta for going the extra mile and making my 40th Birthday so momentous and then the staff onboard especially the flight manager Liz and Victoria, Chloe and Stephanie. Nothing was to much trouble. They made me feel so special. They were like my fan club. The food was what you would expect in a michelin restaurant. Vast amount of onboard entertainment with something for everyone and the lie flat beds helped us resist the dreaded jet lag. The bar and social area onboard meant when we got a little restless we could head there for a beverage and chat with some of the other passengers. This was our first time flying with Virgin Atlantic and what we experienced from every single member of staff was the best and most professional we have witnessed on a flight. To top it off how nice is it to celebrate my 40th with Virgin Atlantic who are celebrating their 40th. Hope our homebound flight from Las Vegas is as momentous which i have no doubt will be the case. Keep up the excellent work all at Virgin.

I am currently on a flight where another passenger seating in front has reclined her chair all the way back.I asked flight attendant if passenger could kindly put there seat up a bit as its basically in my lap. She said no she can't ask her as she is entitled to put it as far back as she wants. If I want more room I will just have to recline mine back. I was very shocked as this my 3rd time flying with virgin. Customer service very poor. Passengers need to be courteous to others recline to and extent but to where you are in the other passengers lap. If I am now open my tray there will be no room. Very disappointed with very and this is a long flight.
