We spent one night here on a trip to Inner Mongolia.

The service was okay - check in was unnecessarily long and the staff had a lot of issues finding visas and making copies of our passports despite our assistance in pointing out the correct visas and stamps.

The room itself was very comfortable and pretty clean.

The breakfast was probably the best we had in Inner Mongolia by Western standards.

The hotel was sort of isolated, with no shops or restaurants within walking distance and very close to a lot of construction that has been abandoned - buildings are sitting 3/4 constructed and empty, which was interesting.

We tried to get drinks in the bar but found it unstaffed, but open. Odd.

Came across some unfavourable comments on it just after its opening in 2012, however we find it perfectly okay when we checked in.
Right now we are inside a room on 21/F. Everything is in good order. Not a glitch. Room is of good size. Amenities are business friendly - even on offer is a UPS power outlet (for those who are really serious about their work) !
In room WiFi is fast.
Bath room is a honey moon layout with, you know, those see-through glasses (with electric blinds).
Power points are ample and thoughtfully located - by the side of the writing desk and besides the bench. Also by the side of the beds for your mobile in case you want it handly while charging. There is even a charger/miniAmp for your iPhone.
BTW, porters were also very friendly and prompt in services. We checked in late but the luggages were delivered just moment after we stepped inside the room.
All in all, it is a very good hotel for business.
It sounds to me that the initial negative comments were merely some teething problems for most new hotels.
It is great that we have booked to stay here.

Ordos is a vast showcase city of tomorrow, a sprawling megatropolis designed to house a population of over 20 million people.
It's current population? About 120'000.
Ordos is a most surreal experience, on the fringes of the Gobi Desert, Ordos contains some of the most remarkable and impressive pieces of architecture seen outside a science fiction film.
It's library is amazing, not just for it's extraordinary design but the fact that it contains no books.
The stunning theatre has played host to only a handful of performances, mostly, concerts by local children and the parks and gardens transform at night into something that makes a Pink Floyd concert look tame.
So the conservative look and manner of the Howard Johnson Parkview Resort is a little out of place here.
The hotel is new, but then so is everything in Ordos, but on the weekend we were there it was really, really new.
The pool was still empty, many floors were locked off and still under contraction and the place smelt a bit like a building site.
The rooms were impressivly large and mine had an amazing view of the sound and light show going on in the park every night. Not to mention the massive fireworks display that also apparently happens every night. Why? "Because we can"
The staff at the hotel were eager to please, perhaps a little too eager, and very, very formal.
They seemed quite thrown at our Australian casualness, hovering over us constantly making sure everything was to our liking.
There were some teething problems, the air conditioning in my room didn't work and the TV reception was awful. Not that there was much to watch anyway.
The food was disappointingly bland, and was a confusing mix of Chinese and European. I didn't try the Ice Cream but I was told it was just "weird"
The bed was extremely comfortable and the hotel had all the trappings of a 5 star hotel.
Until you looked closely. The "Gold" plating on the bathroom fixture won't last too long and made the bathroom look like an upmarket Hong Kong Brothel. (Don't ask)
But the place was clean and when it is finished I'm sure it'll be a fine place to stay in what is a very remarkable city.
Although wandering around at night you do feel like the star of a version of that Sci-fi classic "The last man on Earth"

Room Tip: If you can get a room overlooking the park it's worth it for the view of the nightly light show.

Our fitness center is open now from 7:00am till 11:30pm, the water temperature in the pool is 28℃.As your comments, our F&B management team take it seriously to improve food quality & service; Municipal government plan to provide heating on 15th Oct, so the air conditioning only offer natural wind; Due to the cable TV promotion transformation in ours district, the TV signal may not be good while your stay. We hope you stay with us again in the coming day! If you have any questions please feel free to contact our service center at EXT 0, we are pleased to assist you.

Very nice hotel. I stayed there 6 days after they opened, and could feel it was not quite finished. First thing that struck me was the staff in the lobby/cafe/bar. Who came up with their outfits. Did the management sit around thinking about how to clad the male employees in leopard-print shirts with puffy, disco shoulders? Or how about the female employees looking like they stepped out of an episode of the original Star Trek.

The lobby restroom did not have any soap to wash my hands.

My room was very nicely designed. However, the shower cycle from freezing freezing cold to scalding hot. It was impossible to get a constant temperature. There were bits of construction material in the bathtub. The shower drain was clogged, flooding the shower.

Calls to the hotel room service were to no avail.

When my room was cleaned, the room cleaner would randomly replace towels and toiletries. I did not get bath salts replaced 1 day, and towels I didn't get a towel for the bathroom floor another time.

The elevators were a mess. One elevator would bang against something on the way down, while another elevator's doors would grind against something to open, leaving deep scratches on the polished doors.

Overall, my stay was fine, but for a 5-star hotel, I expect much more. I would not personally pay to stay in this hotel.

As you mentioned, the problems have been handled and solved. The lobby restroom is equipped with hand soap now, also the elevator works well after engineers’ inspection and fix. The entire service team Learn English every day just for easily communicating with foreigners to offer one stop room service. I think of Howard Johnson's as a down market restaurant chain, where I could get fried clam strips and mediocre ice cream as a kid. I had assumed that the Howard Johnson brand had vanished, and deservedly so, until I was booked into this gem in Ordos, Inner Mongolia. The rooms were of course immaculate; not difficult if you stay the night the hotel opens. But for a new hotel there were no service glitches. The cafeteria / main dining room worked efficiently, with a great variety of foods from all over the world. The catering / banquet facilities were wonderful, with great entertainment and truly superlative food, which deserves to be called fine cuisine. Everything was better than it needed to be, with floors composed of carefully inlaid patterns formed of different color marble. It's hard to comment on the location; travel is really easy in Ordos if you have a police escort who clears the roads for your state-sponsored visit.
