My first visit with friends who had stayed at Hawkstone when it was a Catholic retreat. We had a warm welcome from Angela and were seated in the beautiful Saloon for lunch. Our waiter Lewis was efficient and attentive. Sunday lunch was superb. A good choice, sensible portions, well cooked and well presented. No pressure to leave so we did the audio tour offered by Angela and had a walk round the well cared for garden before having afternoon tea on the terrace. A luxury hotel that feels like home is a rare find, but Hawkstone Hall is such a place. We will definitely return.

Greeted with a glass of bubbles ..... downhill after that. Room small but clean, just one very big problem, overlooked the outside where the wedding party was, unfortunately we were not told about that at booking. Consequently , the whole afternoon they occupied the only outdoor seating area, and between 8pm and just after midnight the disco is blaring away. Unable to sleep through it, as it was right outside out room , after midnight it stops then the next 45 mins is people banging doors in the corridors going to bed. On top of that the TV in our room did not get a signal so just sat there for hours waiting for it to stop. If you are given room 110 and there is a party on ..... my advice would be to get moved asap ! Dining - very limited menu, and wow is the service slow. Three courses takes 2 hours ... I had to go and get a jumper I got cold waiting for them. Breakfast is ok, but if you want an early start as we did to escape .. be prepared to chase staff for milk, tea, butter, and beware of dirty cutlery and cups. And don't bother to complain it gets noted in a book and no ones rings you, they have your money that's all they are bothered about. Also, comment from the reception staff ..."We have back to back weddings coming up" ..... please please check before you go, it ruined my retirement treat, I could not leave fast enough £500 lighter !

Room tip: Run away if they offer you room 110

Staff were very attentive. Room was comfortable. Food in the Hills Kitchen was nice. Breakfast was excellent. The grounds are stunning.

Stayed in the Rowling Suite whilst it was a beautiful room it was a little noisy at times.
Room didn't have a mini-bar which was a little disappointing.
Had access to The Pantry where we were able to get fresh milk, sweets & biscuits which was a lovely touch.

Had a really lovely weekend here. Hotel is beautiful as are the gorgeous gardens. We stayed in a suite which was beautiful overlooking the rear lawn. Afternoon tea was lovely and plentiful. Our meal on Saturday night was also stunning. I had scallops then the lamb followed by coffe cake all of which were stunning.
I would like to single out 2 members of staff who for me were both outstanding at what they did. First of all Frank the food and beverages manager was attentive, friendly and very professional.
Secondly I want to mention Callum who served us drinks and also waited on us. He was also incredibly professional and courteous and attentive.
Thank you for a wonderful weekend we will definitely return.

We arrived via a long track many potholes. Met by receptionist who carried case . Told us of audio tour which we found interesting . Given key to classic room - very small nowhere to sit except the bed. Asked for chair receptionist said he would get one and coat hangers as none in room. We went for walk in gardens then returned to room . No chair or hangers asked again then brought to room. Our dining experience was poor food portions were minute. Service took two hours for a 3course meal. This happened every evening in both restaurants. Menu same each evening . Told menu changed each season but sometimes chef would try a new dish. First night noise due to wedding and prom celebrations kept us awake until early hours of morning. Asked for room change told none available.Next day asked again and given a room for disabled. No hangers so took them from room we were leaving.. Thought all now resolved. Alas no Received email from booking.com whom we booked with cancelling our D/B&B and reinstating B/B for following 3 nights . Enquired at reception to ask if dinner reservations cancelled . Told as we had moved to a room not booked with booking .com a new booking had to be made for next 3 nights.also informed drinks bill of £34 & £6 would be transferred to present room. We had no drinks! This explained as “ human error”Appalled at breakfast having asked for a clean cup replacement brought with lipstick stain. Plates were cold food also cold. Limited choice no cheese ham or fish . Piped music throughout public rooms initially tolerable after 4 days repetitive Constanta d not conducive to conversation or reading. No A/C no fridge no mini bar no spa ( not yet built)
NOT A 5* hotel

Room tip: Avoid visiting when group functions being held. Not enough staff to cope
