Divine Dinner

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 Feb 2019
We attended on Friday evening as it was my partner's birthday with my in-laws. We all had a Camembert starter, with chicken, steak and the rump lamb for main. Desserts were sticky toffee pudding and ginger cheesecake. The whole meal was divine - tasty and hot. With a couple of alcoholic drinks the bill was extremely reasonable.

Booked this late,as there was nothing closer to Shrewsbury, What a find, interesting hotel with Clean, comfortable rooms with frienly staff. Breakfast was excellent. I will be returning. It was january and what a nice surprise to find rooms always comfortably heated. Plenty of comfortable places to sit and chat.

Room tip: Ask for the old part of the hotel.

We booked for Christmas lunch also to stay the night. We booked in and had a lovely welcome. We left our dog in the room and went for lunch. We did not have to pre book which made a nice change. The menu was excellant, soup, smoked salmon & prawn mousse and smoked duck salad,we both had smoked salmon. Mains were Roast turkey and beef, cod loin and vegetarian rissoto, we both had turkey. pudding were christmas pud, cheesecake, cheese & biscuits, chocolate torte and creme brulee, we had the pudding and torte., The whole meal was wonderful, plenty of veg and not just the usual sprouts and carrots.. We finished off with coffee, mints and mince pies,by the fire. We were able to have our dog with us in the lounge. We sat around the fire. when we got back to our room,we discovered to toilet flush was broken, they quickly moved us next door.,which was a bigger room. Unfortunately the thermostat was broken and the room was boiling all night and the tap was loose. When we mentioned it,we had the wine knocked off our bill and a profuse apology. The room we had was spacious, with a large comfy bed. There was a good hospitality tray. The towels were a good size and the toiletries were good quality too. Breakfast was excellant, plenty of choice of cereal, fruits, juices and yoghurt. The cooked was really tasty especially the sausage. All in all, despite the problems,we'll definitely go back and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Visited hawkstone park for our Christmas party. The actual place itself is quite far out overall it was a good night.

Food was nice the feathered blade of beef melted in your mouth it was faultless. The vegetables we slightly hard but didn’t bother me too much. Alcohol slightly on the over priced side but is expected at places like that.

Fantastic Bruno Mars tribute act, good dj which came and asked us what type of music we all liked to accommodate everyone’s taste.

Good night would visit again.

We stayed over for The Santa safari at Hawkestone Park. Great setting great location.
On checking in we had a few issues even though we had booked months ago. Big family room with fold out beds but great big main bed. The room was cold as the heating in the room was off but it soon warmed up. Evening meal was lovely with friendly staff and service in a super dining room. Woken in the night by what must of been the night porter with his music on loud as he did his rounds!! Other than that we were not disturbed even though there was a Christmas party on. Breakfast was not a buffet other than a small selection of cereal and pastries which was a bit disappointing. The freshly cooked breakfast was great though. I would definitely visit again.

We stayed at The Hawkstone Park hotel for a wedding; the only atmosphere was in the room we were celebrating. The large open plan public eating/drinking area is boring, sparse and soulless, even a bit of background music would be an improvement.

The staff deliver service with the least amount of effort they can muster, we were served a bottle of white wine and it didn’t occur that we might want some glasses to drink from, as for a wine cooler, don’t even go there. They have a bar in the wedding room which appears to be stocked with only a quarter of the stock they hold in the main bar meaning the staff were constantly running back and forth between the two, carrying everything from wine, spirits and pints!

The room was standard for a hotel of this nature with all of the usual, large ‘Premier Inn’ style bed, tea, coffee, iron, ironing board, toiletries etc but the oddest electric shower which didn’t go beyond warm and a shower screen which didn’t stay open therefore restricting your space to move in the shower.

Breakfast was buffet style with cereals, fruit and cooked items, fried eggs are never nice when they have been sat in a hot tray and left to dry out but poached eggs are cooked to order on request.

Fortunately the breakfast staff were a little more friendly and professional than those who had served us the evening before but that wasn’t difficult when the waiter with the huge chip on his shoulder served up a meat pizza to the buffet announcing it was vegan was advised by the vegetarian that it contained meat, proceeded to rudely state that ‘he’ hadn’t made a mistake and argued the point that it was what he was told by the chefs rather than apologise to the non-meat eater who nearly consume a chunk of Salami!

In the morning the cleaning staff are desperate to get into your room before you’ve even checked out and would even wake you to do so, they cancel the access cards at 10.30 (checkout is at 11.00) so there are loads of people wandering back and forth to reception validating their cards so they can get back into their rooms after breakfast.

We were charged well over the odds for the room purely on the basis that we were attending for a wedding which makes the price of the room far more than it was worth if you take all of the above into consideration. There are plenty of alternatives nearby; I’d certainly opt for something else if I needed to stay this way again.
