We stayed here for one night. I heard that this Japanese-style hotel which we call "Ryokan" in Japan started in 1884. We can see the magnificent Japanese-style garden through a front lobby which has big columns made from trees after receptionist's very polite welcome. At the corner of a front lobby, there also are some exhibition e.g., many pictures, signboards, Japanese traditional stringed instrument, medals presented from Japanese emperor etc. We can see them displayed in any time.
Haiya Ryokan consists of new and old building connected by corridor. I guessed that new building have executive rooms when I stopped by there.Although we stayed in an old building because of cheaper, we could felt relaxed due to tatami and well-lighted windows. Daiyokuzyo public bath were not so large but very clean and good bathwater. Dinner and breakfast served in our room were both Japanese seafood meals that was very fresh and delicious.
Our maid who helped us with anything, especially preparation for dining and making bed, all day while we were staying was very kind and friendly.

If you think you want experience Japanese accommodation, I would recommend here.

A typical ryokan. Onsen is good but not much view, since ryokan is among the clusters of ryokan. we stayed in 3rd floor, higher floor may have better view.
young staff are cheerful though less experienced.

Dinner & breakfast in private dining room. Cuisine is full of local ingredients, we did not opt for the more expensive crab meal, just a crab kaiseki meal. for we think we could have better value in the crab restaurants by the seaside. Yes we did.

Room tip: may be higher floor like 5th

We stayed at Haiya for one night. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted by the ftont desk staff. Our superior Japanese-style room with ensuite bathroom was very spacious, clean and comfortable. It had a balcony overlooking the nicely decorated garden with a gold fish pond. Dinner and breakfast were served in the private dining room. Both the dinner and breakfast sets were fabulous and delicious. We enjoyed both the private and public onsens. Great stay overall.

Room is really nice and have a very good view of the harbour and the city. We have a Japanese styles room and everything is prefect!

Staff are really nice and helpful. They are very patient even we communicated with broken English and Japanes, they still serve in a professional way.

Food is great! Both breakfast and dinner is good. The server is really kind and detail.
The hotel is located in a fishing area, people come in here for seafood especially crab. So if you expect a very excited city area, this is not the area that you will satisfy.
Price compare with other hot spring hotel in other places in Japan is really good!

I will recommend people to style in this hotel

kind reminder:
Staff in here is not so good in English, so you need to be patient to communicated with them. They are trying the best to serve you.

We booked this Ryokan thru yukoyuko.net, a Japanese popular website specifically used to book Onsen ryokans for affordable prices.
This ryokan exceeded our expectations in so many ways.
I knew that this ryokan was one of the best in this area, Awara, but didn't think much of it until I arrived. The town itself is a pretty small town, not much to do, but the ryokan was amazing! We booked a room with the Japanese garden view, which is situated in the middle of the ryokan, so we had great views of the well-taken-care-of Japanese garden from our room. The staff that works here are all very professional and extremely polite. They treated us like kings and queens. The room attendant that was in charge of us was a young man, which I thought was unusual, but he was very thoughtful and entertaining, and took very good care of us. When you stay at a ryokan, the highlights are dinner and the onsen(hot spring) itself. Here, they serve dinner/breakfast not at your own room, but at another privately set room which is good because this way you don't have to sleep in the same room that served your dinner leaving that all of a sudden seeming like an "unpleasant fishy smell” especially when you are full!!
The onsen area itself was smaller compared to other gigantic chains, but had many amenities like different kinds of soaps, etc. to chose from.
All in all, would recommend this ryokan to all.
