This ryokan is located at the seaside in Karatsu, with the rooms overlooking the beach and the Karatsu Bay. The Japanese style room is decent and comfortable, though I would say is lacking of power plugs for travelers nowadays. The onsen is indoor, of good size to enjoy but it would be even better if there is a window.
The highlight for us would be the seafood kaiseki. The ryokan has its own fish tanks to keep the squid, fish, lobster, prawns, and other seafood live before serving, ensuring the best quality and freshness.
On the night we have scallops, sashimi for the catch of the day - kelp grouper, lobster and squid, all served live and whole, mochi from lotus root, grilled prawn, grilled oysters, steamed egg custard in bowl, braised grouper fish head, squid tempura and grilled squid, lobster head miso soup, rice and pickles, plus fruit.
Having been to many ryokans I would rate this one as one of the best in terms of seafood offering, no wonder the Japanese royal family and some famous politicians had visited this ryokan before.More
