I love Japanese Ryokan, and this gave me the best experience so far. The place offers a broad selection of rooms, from small ones to suits. It offers great on-site onsen where one can bath and relax. The garden inside the ryokan is amazing. It is very well maintained and organized. The place also offers in-room dinner upon prior reservation.

We had an amazing time here. But as always ... all good things come at the price.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying in Yoyokaku Ryokan, in the pottery town of Karatsu, for three nights. This Ryokan has been welcoming guests through several generations of family ownership, and welcoming non-Japanese guests for more than fifty years. The condition of the buildings is superb - the rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable, with their own bathrooms and Ofuro. The public bath area is also spacious and very well maintained. The gardens, which are quite large and very beautiful, can be seen from all of the windows in the room we stayed in. Traditional Japanese-style breakfasts are enjoyed in the public dining room, while Kaiseki-style dinners are served in the rooms. It is a privilege to enjoy the hospitality of Yoyokaku, and I can heartily recommend the experience!

Superb ryokan with great food, bath and service.
We had dinner in our room served by the most hilarious maid. Not a word of English but had us all cracking up. Great with the kids.
The pottery store ( actually three stores - the master, the son, the daughter) offer some lovely traditional bowls, green tea cups, sake cups. They seem expensive until you compare them to the prices in Tokyo. They're actually good value.

Thanks for a wonderful stay.

All the great reviews are true. This is a really special Ryokan, right from check in you are in traditional Japan. Our maid greeted us and took us to or room, she was amazing despite the language barrier. Dinner was fantastic and the service immaculate. Would definitely recommend. One go out favourite places in Japan.

This traditional Japanese Ryokan is a perfect place to retreat from the city life. The Ryokan is a small structure of 20 rooms embedded in a well designed and maintained traditional garden, with trimmed pines and rocks and small water ponds. The rooms are so essential and elegant and look into the garden so that I had immediately the feeling of being in another world, made of nature and harmony. The dinners are served in the room and are delicious, we choose the Kaiseki type: wonderfully presented, fresh and absolutely exquisite. The breakfast is served in a common room with other guests, we choose the Japan style. The service in the Ryokan is very attentive and proactive. The personnel very kind and professional. The ryokan is located in a quite area just opposite the Karatsu castle. There is a boat taxi and ferry service to the small and wild island of Takashima. To reach Karatsu we took the train from Fukuoka airport, that is quite convenient. I would like to express my gratitude to both the owners for their warm welcome and kindness during our stay.
