I took a bus from Nago to see the Hiji waterfall - grab a bamboo stick and go into the forest. I saw huge butterflies, lizards and salamanders on the way in!

Don't take your dogs. Even though there are NO signs or notices on any of their pamphlets or website- you will drive way out there and waste your time. Probably beautiful but we wouldn't know.

The 30 minutes walk to the hiji waterfall and of course the waterfall itself were really beautiful. Mostly you walk on planks. The nature there is really amazing. It looks like a jungle.
There ate some stairs but all in all its managable and not too hard. The entry fee is 500yen but really really worth it.

This is a lovely walk up to the waterfall. We took the river side course which meant paddling through the stream as you criss-crossed up the valley and made it a bit more intrepid feeling (although very shallow and easy). We came down the fast path way and were glad to have used the alternative on the way up. Path is easy going and a couple of viewing areas at the top. You can't get too close to the falls and certainly not swim in them.

There is an entry fee which I think also covers camping in the "reserve", I think it was about 300Y per adult and 150Y for a child.

The waterfall is nothing to shout about, really expecting more after a tiring 45 mins trek. Path is well-maintained but really steep in places. And there are no tables or seats once you arrive at the waterfall, just a lookout point. So after you take some photos it was time to start back again, the horror!
