Hotel is a very convenient 5 mins transfer from the airport for a $7 USD or $40 Trinidad and Tobago. Don't worry about being close to the airport as you won't be disturbed by noise.

The room we had was deluxe double that is the hotels standard room I believe. Decorated in a typical Caribbean style (floral and colourful) was clean and comfortable despite being a little dated especially in the bathroom.

The hotels biggest asset is the beach area. Lots of sunbeds nestled between the palm trees and thatched umbrellas. The clear shallow water is great for all ages and the protective rock breakwater shelters the beach from big waves. The bonus is the rocks provide habitat for a huge variety of fish and coral that as a qualified scuba diver I was well impressed with.

Now the negatives, due to the hotel being very quiet the options for dining were very limited on an evening. And the enforced dress code was a little excessive in my opinion. I'm fine with collared shirts but full length trousers in that heat is crazy. Also the restaurant on an evening was formal to a point the staff were afraid to make a mistake instead of having a laugh with the patrons. I understand the hotel is trying to keep an air of elegance about it but needs to be relaxed some what.

Should you wish to adventure beyond the hotel's grounds the bar street outside offers mainly fast food options. However we did discover a couple of eateries turning left out of the hotel gates (Cafe Coco, The Wonky Windmill) and turning right with a 5 min walk to Drunken Joes and 10 mins to Crafters Steak house and grill both nice. Store Bay Beach area also offers good local eats for a very reasonable price (day time only)

Thank you for your feedback.

It is good the read that you enjoyed the resort and explored the surrounding area restaurants/bars. Your concerns regarding our evening dress code in Tamara's Restaurant has also been noted.
Cafe Coco is our off-property restaurant; wonderful to know that you experienced it as well.

This hotel might have been beautiful - 20 years ago. Everything about this place is dated and uncomfortable. We stayed three nights at Blue waters Inn on the other end of the island and it was beautiful. The hotel was basically empty as it is off season but still we waited for our room to be prepared. 300 US dollars a night for this place is just ridiculous. The bed was scratchy and uncomfortable and obviously hasn't been updated since the place was built. The bathroom was small and dingy with peeling wallpaper. The staff was nice enough. The best part of our stay here was the proximity to La Cantina which has an excellent pizza oven, staff and bar. Will definitely try somewhere different next trip.

Thank you for your feedback.
We do apologize for your wait on your room as this may be the case without advance reservation arrangements.
Our beds are the latest pillow-top style mattresses and solid frames; they are updated regularly.
It is unfortunate that you were unhappy with your room for the one-night stay but we appreciate your comments and will use them to improve.

We spent 10 days at Coco Reef and find it difficult to recognise many of the negative reviews. The hotel was nowhere near to capacity (which is, sadly, the same throughout Tobago). But the upside was the hotel beach - one of the best you'll ever find - was almost empty. Sun loungers and shades were plentiful...so no one found any need to try and reserve them!
We stayed on an all inclusive basis. The food in the restaurant was excellent and every meal was memorable, overlooking the silver sands and Caribbean.
Drinks were virtually all part of the all inclusive package.
Ok, the rooms could do with a little TLC but are still good quality.
The hotel is within an easy stroll to Pigeon Point which is simply an amazing beach and worth more than one visit.
Among the highlights was taking a taxi to visit a small nature reserve where hummingbirds are called to their feeding stations by a bell! Great photo opportunity.
But perhaps the best thing of all are the Coco Reef staff. All are friendly and genuinely keen to help make your holiday special.
We certainly plan to return.

I don't even know where to start!

The Beach

Many of the sunbeds are broken. Some of the tables and umbrellas are driven almost into the ground so you can only get under then if you afre 5ft 1. The weekends were ruined by loud screaming women and children in the water (not the hotel's fault of course).

If the dive shop manager goes diving, it was often closed (except weekends), so no snorkelling equipment or canoes were available.

Restaurant

Most of the ceiling fans are broken, or uttelry pointless with the speed they go round.

We ate evening meal on the first night and thanked our lucky stars we were only B&B as the food was dreadful. Horribly expensive, miniscule portion and very overcooked. For 4 of us, with a drink each and a main course it was £100 !!!! We never ate here again.

Tables cloths marked and stained.

Breakfast was ok. One of the toasters was broken for the whole fortnight... made queuing for toast fairly painful.

Don't go if you have a bird phobia as they are everywhere at breakfast! This is fairly standard in the Caribbean but all they need to do is put the sugar in a box with a tight lid! Not difficult...

There is no disabled access to the restaurant.

The sister restaurant Cafe Coco wasn't much better. Dreadful decor, massive restaurant with no ambience. Much better prices and decent portion size, but the fish was so overcooked it was awful, and my husband had food poisoning after our night there!

The Beach Restaurant

Nothing except overpriced sandwiches (£8.00) each for the B&B guests. You could have the all-inlusive buffet for £20 a head!!!

Bedroom

Shabby, in dire need of updating. The floors have been varnished without sweeping them properly so there is all dirt and dust stuck under the varnish. In my parents room, the valance on the bed hadn't been removed before the floor was varnished so there was a 2 inch stiff brown tide mark where the valance had sucked up the varnish!

We had a stain in our toilet that grew until they finally bleached it on day 10. My Dad's pillowcase had a mark on it from day 1, it was finally changed on day 13.

The bathroom is not much short of dilapidated. Just awful.

Turn down service stopped completely after just 3 nights. It was replaced by a knock on the door at 7.15pm evey night, just when you are getting ready to go out, to ask if you need anything.

There are no mosquito nets so you have to sleep with the door closed, and no ceiling fan so no choice but to suffer the air con.

General

Entertainment was dire. Every table in the bar is so wobbly you spill drinks. The stench in the corridor from the shops to the rooms was so bad we took to holding our breath as we walked through it.

I do not understand why people come back here year after year. They must have simply lost touch with other 4 star hotels, as we have stayed in far superior 3 stars, let alone 4.

The music from Store Bay & Jennie's Bar is ridiculous. Some poeple we met had to be moved. I could hear the thumping base from the other side of the hotel, even with earplugs.

Overall, beyond disappointed,

The only plus points I could find were friendly staff and lovely gardens.

Don't waste your money here - there are far nice places to stay!

Thank you for your feedback.
It is always unfortunate to discover concerns after a guest has departed from the resort.
This means that we have lost the opportunity to correct these same concerns 'as they occur' to improve our guests' experience while at resort.
Your comments will be reviewed by our executive team and investigated.

A friend had encouraged me to go to Magdalena based on a recent visit there. I called and got very unfriendly service as though i was bothering them from doing something worth their time.

After the negative feeling i got i called Coco Reef and from my first interaction their service was excellent, even after my multiple calls. Nicola was professional and friendly and very helpful and accomodating. It was because of this interaction that i decided to stay at Coco Reef.

The place is very pleasant, very open, very easy on the eye and gets you relaxed very easily.

The on site restaurant is reasonalby priced enough and staff friendly and helpful.

Breakfast was very good with a wide enough variety. You are kept company by 2 live hawks who you can mistake for ornaments until they start to move.

My intention was to stay in and relax and Coco Reef met this need easily. It was a slow period so this made it even easier to relax.

You enter, walk down some stairs and you are on the beach. It doesnt get better than that.

The room was decent. AC worked well. I was greeted the word WELCOME done in palm leaves..very nice touch.

All in all, my stay was lovely and definitely worth the cost and will stay again, will recommend as well.

Room Tip: Ocean view is nice.
