Hotel Cuidad de Móstoles was a hotel we selected because of it's location in the Villaviciosa de Odón/Alcorcon/Móstoles area. It's location is a bit far from central Madrid, but we needed to be in this neighbourhood, so it was ideal. We had previously stayed at another hotel nearby, but decided to 'hotel hop' in order to add variety to our time in Madrid. I'll divide the review into Pros and Cons.
PROS:
At check-in, we met ANDRES at the reception. He was warm, helpful and welcoming. This jolly gentleman offered to store our luggage- (which was a lot), but I said we would manage. Andres told us about booking their breakfast buffet at El Gueridón Restaurant a day in advance, which would be cheaper at 9 Euros, as opposed to 11 Euros on the same day. This we immediately did.
What's most notable about Hotel Cuidad de Móstoles is their 'risque' shower smack in the middle of the room! 😄 This was a unique feature that I had read about in its reviews, and I thought- how unique, cool and original! Though I know many a people will despise this odd concept of a shower cubicle in the center of a hotel room, I 'digged it' quite frankly!😍 And the thing is that the glass panes are transparent, so one's 'nudity' is unmissable, graphic and quite glaring! Besides, there's a full length mirror just by the side wall! 🤪 I mean, how many times will someone ever see or stay in a hotel room like this in this lifetime?!?! My daughter absolutely hated it! 😂 She thought it was rude and inappropriate.
The room had a mahogany wooden floor that looked rich and glossy. This was another favourite thing about the room for me. Two complimentary bottles of small water were left for us everday. Housekeeping was quite fast and extremely efficient in cleaning the rooms. As soon as you place the 'Si Pase N' (Come In) sign on the door, they are there pronto, or 'No Molesten' (Do Not Disturb), then they never bother you. Two ladies at the reception were always of speedy assistance whenever we needed a taxi. Didn't catch their names because they were not wearing name tags.
CONS:
Our room at Hotel Cuidad de Móstoles was a bit on the small side. That 'sexy' shower was positioned in a way that made an already tiny room super tight. The furniture, decor was tacky and old-fashioned. It looked like stuff straight out of the 1980's; especially the black & gray headboard and that dwarfish cupboard contraption! 😩 (Please refer to my posted picture of it). The cupboard was not sufficient, and there were no shelves or drawers inside it.
The bed was rather small, too low, and the mattrass was slippery and a bit lumpy. The bedsheets were ill-fitting- which made them slip off the bed easily. This was so uncomfortable! 😖 The room was starting to show a little wear in the form of some wall paper coming off, the hairdryer almost out of it's fitting, and the wood at the base of the fridge chipping off. Kindly refer to my posted photos.
There were no grab rail(s), handles, or anything you could hold on to inside the shower cubicle, so you had to be careful not to slip on the stainless steel, perforated floor. It also got really stuffy whenever we showered, almost to the point of breathlessness! No dustbin- (except for in the toilet cubicle), or tissue box was placed in the room, and except for 2 miniature soaps, a shaving kit and some kind of tiny bath gel/shampoo hybrid, there were no other complimentary toiletries like say a shower cap, body lotion, etc. Maybe you would have to request them.
Hotel Cuidad de Móstoles is perhaps one of the only 'alleged' 4 star hotels that didn't have a Kettle and Tea/Beverage accoutrements. Also, no Iron was provided, which never ceases to frustrate the hell out of and piss me off! 😡 There was also no complimentary Stationary or any Guest Information about the room, hotel services or anything about the area of Móstoles and environs, except for a QR code of the food menu on the fridge's surface.
The fridge had leaked an orange-brown murky liquid on the inside the first time I opened it. How come this wasn't cleaned beforehand??? I had to mop it up with some tissue. There was an unmistakable stink that sometimes emanated from the shower, and I didn't like the fact that there was no shelving or any place to keep your toiletries/bath items when you showered, except for some small circular petri-dish thing attached to the shower head.
Water often accumulated inside the rectangular sink and it slightly leaked onto the floor from the back/wall area whenever we used it. Our room's T.V had about 40 channels- (including music ones), and only BBC, Al Jazeera, NHK World Japan and TRT World were in English. There was no CNN and no other news or entertainment stations, except for a handful in French and German. Not very 'international' I must say! The television was positioned to the far right of the room by the window- which was so weird! Given that it was affixed to a wall, why couldn't it have simply been placed at the center of the room??? Wonder why they placed it there? 🤔
As for the other facilities of the hotel, I didn't pay much attention to them, other than the fact that Room Service was available, (based on that QR code) in our room, and the menu we saw inside the elevator. Don't know whether they have a Swimming Pool or a Conference Hall. There's a Cafe type seating area for casual snacks and drinks, where you had to summon the waiter/waitress via a bell. There seemed to be only one restaurant on the premises- El Gueridón Restaurante. When we ventured out on foot, we saw a McDonald's, KFC, Burger King, so at least there are some other dining options nearby. This didn't seem like the type of hotel that had a Spa or a Gym.
There was a Vending Machine in the lobby that had sandwiches, chocolates/candy, water, nuts, drinks, biscuits, crisps and condoms! Now why the hell would you place packets of condoms in the same place as food & drink items?!?! I mean, WTF!!! 🤬 The very thought of buying anything from that vending machine repulsed the hell out of me! Just imagine the idea of the same machine dispensing your sandwiches, water and other snacks, with condoms??? There was a seperate machine for about 18 types of cigarettes, so why not have it there??? So bizarre, not to mention outrageous and unbecoming! 😤
As I mentioned previously, Hotel Cuidad de Móstoles's seemingly only restaurant, El Gueridón, had an atrocious breakfast spread! 👎🏽 This is easily the worst breakfast buffet I've ever had the 'displeasure' of trying at any hotel I've stayed at. We had previously stayed at Hotel Villa Odón- (not too far away from Hotel Cuidad de Móstoles), and their's was a whole lot better. Can't believe I also complained about that one! 😄 The one here made that one seem like breakfast at The Ritz or The Four Seasons! First of all, the restaurant looked a little too sterile- kind of like a hospital waiting room area. There was nothing vibrant or attractive about it.
As for the breakfast options, there were 4 kinds of Cold Meats/Cuts: Ham, Turkey Breast, Cooked Ham and Prosciutto, 1 Fritatta, 4 Cereals, 5 Fruits (in their skin), a handful of Yogurt tubs, poppy seed topped Croissants, a couple of Sweet Pastries, Glazed Doughnuts and very tiny wrapped assorted Muffins- (3 types). Those muffins were so adorable, and they were my favourite thing about El Gueridón's breakfast spread.
In addition to this, there was only one type of juice- Orange, and there were fresh-cut Melons/Cantaloupes and Pineapples, but the Chefs couldn't be bothered to remove the entire skin! 🍈🍍😟 Check out my posted picture of them. Or maybe this is how it's presented/served in Spain? But the freshly cut fruit at Hotel Villa Odón's breakfast had all the skin taken off, all 100% of it. At the Beverage(s) Station, Tea Satchets with 4 Brands were available- Pompadour, Deltea, Pickwick and Hornimans, in addition to 2 Hot Chocolate Packs.
A sizeable Beverage Machine dispensed the following: Café Ristretto, Café Solo, Café Cortado, Café con Leche, Americano, Cappuccino, Hot Chocolate, Leche (Milk), Agua Caliente (Hot Water), and Decafs (Descafeinado) of Café Solo, Café con Leche and Cappuccino. Based on what I ate at this breakfast, I will tell you that the Bread was unfresh, the Frittata flavorless, Pastries were stale, Orange Juice was flat, Croissant was dry, Turkey Slices were bland, and so on and so forth. I could go on and on about how uninspiring this breakfast was! 😞 This is perhaps the first breakfast buffet I've had that I didn't eat anything that was delicious; absolutely anything I tell you! 🤮
So to sum up our stay at Hotel Cuidad de Móstoles, I will say that it was not a good one. Except for Andres's excellent service- and that of the Housekeeping Staff, lovely wooden floor, availability of Room Service and 'eccentricity' of their pervy shower, I can say that this is a hotel that fell waaaayyy below expectations! I expected so much more from Hotel Cuidad de Móstoles, and I had no idea based on the reviews I read that it would be as bad as it was. Nevertheless, I'd like to thank ANDRES for his amazing professionalism, the two ladies at the reception for all their help and the Housekeeping 'Crew' for their prompt service.
I was going to give them an average rating, but after having written this review, I came to the realisation that there was too much wrong with the hotel, so it is undeserving of it. It just simply has to be a bad from me, and that's unfortunate and such a shame! 😔 They need to seriously 'revamp' this place because it doesn't qualify as a 4 Star establishment; at least I don't think it should. I can confidently and categorically say that I will not be staying at Hotel Cuidad de Móstoles again because I/we didn't enjoy our time here. There is lots of room for improvement and I respectfully urge them to get right to it! Poor hotel, with poorer facilities that is not recommended by me! 👎🏽
