Description: Ruta del Mulhacen Restaurant in Pampaneira offers traditional cuisine, which recalls the authentic alpujarrenian flavors of yesteryear. Some dishes are made with local and organic products to demonstrate the art of cooking in the Alpujarra. The menu encompasses family traditions handed down to Angelina by her mother "Grandma Marina". Angelina Martin, manager of the restaurant, has been collecting customs and traditions through the generations, deeply rooted in the territory, adapted to their environment and respectful with Nature.

We have visited Pampaneira on many occasions and it is undoubtedly one of the most attractive of the High Alpujarran villages, located on the slopes of the Poqueira Gorge in the Sierra Nevadas. This restaurant occupies the top-floor (with lift access for those with mobility issues) of a building centrally located adjacent to the main square and comprises a interior "comedor" and a roof terrace with stunning views over the village towards the surrounding mountains.

The food is Spanish, with strong Alpujarran influences, albeit a little more creative and ambitious that many restaurants in the area. For example, we started with a shared dish of Bacalao (salt cod) in a typically Alpujarran sauce, Sirloin steak with goat's cheese and caramalised peppers and pork loin in mustard sauce. There is a short, but well chosen, selection of Spanish wines, including those from the local DoC Granada region. The "Marques de la Contraviessa" from the nearby Quatro Vientos bodega in Murtas is definitely recommended!

Service is friendly and prompt, although as elsewhere is the region, some knowledge of Spanish is useful. Three courses, with wine, mineral water and coffees cost Euros 75, which we felt provides good value given the quality of the food and wine in a breath taking location.

After a few lovely sun filled days the weather broke. Torrential winter rain! Drove up to one of our favourite summer villages and took refuge in this busy restaurant. No views from the terrace today- but a roaring fire, wine and garlic soup soon made us forget the weather.

Gracias.

With friends looking for somewhere to have lunch and noticed a corridor with arrows pointing upwards to this restaurant. It is very traditional looking inside but has alight and airy terrace with fantastic views up towards two other mountain villages. We opted for menu del dia which was very good, with an emphasis on rustic mountain food. Very different to food down in the valleys, towns or coast.Staff were very good too.

We have been to this restaurant 3 times now with guests and as the view from the outdoor table s is so beautiful it´s definitely worth a visit. The food is very simple Spanish but of good quality. The prices are very reasonable.

The staff were very friendly and the view wonderful, but the food was truly awful. One of the worst meals I've had and my fellow guests agreed. The fennel stew tasted of nothing. The goat stew was just fat and splintered bone. My pork speciality was the worst cut of meat I've ever seen. To make things worse, it wasn't cheap either.
