My family has stayed at La Orquídea 3 times over the past two years. We were completely smitten with it on the first visit but it seems the upkeep of the place has slipped some in since our last visit. The Good: Private house located right on the laguna. Very friendly family of caretakers who provide breakfast. One of the few more affordable places on the laguna that can sleep 6 people (or up to 12 if you rent the main house as well.) The not so good: Nothing was set up down by the waterfront. In the past there have been chairs and hammocks all ready for use down at the water. The kayaks were not available for use, the life jackets need replacing, the only item available were three inner tubes. There is a huge dog on the property. He seems friendly enough, however he is not well controlled and we had to ask the caretakers multiple times to get him out of the houses. He burst into the guest house were my sister was sleeping in the early morning and was scratching on the bedroom doors. I found my 4 year old a bit terrified in her bedroom when I walked in to find him laying on the floor growling at her. Again, I don't mind dogs, I love them actually.
