We had heard good things about this restaurant which is located inside Hangaroa Eco Village and Spa so we decided to give it a try.
Upon arrival we were ushered (somewhat rudely) into a separate dining area (away from a group that had just some of the main tables in the restaurant). This was fine as the separate area was nice with a good ambiance.
The serving staff were friendly in this area but rather incompetent, leaving us for a long time although only three tables were occupied. When they poured my glass of wine at the table they didn't show me the label they just put the bottle to the side of the table out of view.
I ordered stuffed pasta with tomato sauce and my husband ordered the flat iron steak. The presentation of both meals was nice but the sauce on my pasta was so overwhelmingly salty I had to return the dish and decided just to share my husbands food. His steak started off well with the meat falling off the bone (it appeared to be slow cooked), but the second half was chewy and not as nice. The potatoes were undercooked and the mushrooms tasted like they had gone off (an unpleasant taste and odour-which could be potentially quite dangerous and after which I felt pretty sick for the evening).
Immediately after we finished we asked for the bill from another server. Ten minutes later our original server came to our table to ask if we wanted dessert or coffees! We asked again for the bill at that point.
All in all the food and service were very disappointing for such a supposed high end hotel on the island. There are plenty of other nicer options on the island-skip this one for your own health and sanity!
