English Heritage have made the most of this find. They have a good modern exhibition and the free audio guide works well. The site is surprisingly large and it’s impressive when you consider most of the Roman remains are still underground. You can easily spend a couple of hours here.

When you manage to find it - Council better brown sign marking please - this is a very good Roman remains experience. The Museum is modern, very well laid out and informative and has some unique specimens including the contents of a chest buried 2000 years ago.
Outside the Roman buildings foundations are well kept and an audio tour gives excellent information about the life and times in this part of the world.

The brilliantly-maintained site gives a great insight into how the Romans established a large outpost on Hadrian's Wall, with interesting displays in the museum and informative explanatory materials around the site for context.

English Heritage should be congratulated .
