Air Conditioning. We knew in advance we had to pay an extra $15 per bedroom for the air con. Bedroom 1 was fine but Bedroom 2 had an old wall type air con which was very noisy especially at night while trying to sleep ... not acceptable when paying specifically for air conditioning.

Beach. We wore reef shoes whenever we were swimming. However despite this my 16 year old daughter was bitten by something on her leg leaving 4 tooth marks. We were all hesitant to swim after that and noted that nobody else was swimming there either. Another family also referred to the biting fish. I think people should be made aware of the risk.

Cleanliness. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and after walking around in the apartment for half an hour our feet were black. It had obviously not been cleaned for some time. We ended up using paper towel to try and clean it a little.

Thank you for your review.
With regard to the aircon this was simply an adjustment needed to the fan. Had you informed the manager as soon as it happened it would have been rectified and your sleep would have been undisturbed. However you chose not to inform the manager until you checked out.
In 12 years of operation we have never had a guest unable to swim in the lagoon due to fish biting. They have simply enjoyed the swimming, snorkeling and kayaking.
I take exception to your stating "the floor had obviously not been cleaned for some time" Our housekeeper takes great pride in her work and the floor is cleaned every time before a guest moves in.

We chose Tiare Villa, at Makayla Palms, after a long, difficult search, just because we were looking for a perfect location for our wedding. And...we got it!!
This little villa not only met, but exceeded our expectations with its wonderful location, in a lush tropical garden, at only 20m from a spectacular stretch of Titikaveka Beach, which we considered the best spot in Rarotonga.
Elegant, comfortable, well kept and well equipped.
Grace, the Manager, helped us to solve all our doubts and needs on arrival, in the fastest, most welcoming and smiling way, avoiding us any waste of precius holiday time.
A motobike can be rent directly at Makayla:it is necessary to enjoy the isle and its attractions! Beach beds, kayaks, snorkeling equipments (including shoes) are at guests' disposal free of charge.
Privacy and quiet are guaranteed all during your fantastic stay.
Thanks a lot!

When you book an overseas holiday, you never really know what kind of accommodation you are going to get. We booked 10 days at Makayla Palms because the website made the accommodation look amazing. Well... the photos don't do the place any justice. This place is incredible. Not only is it a private slice of heaven, it is also staffed by the some of the most friendliest people we have ever met. Rachel, John, Fred and Loving made us feeling so welcome and comfortable. Their hospitality made our holiday so much more special. We really enjoyed our chats with Rachel. Its so nice to be made to feel so at home and someone making that special effort to add a personal touch.
The accommodation itself was clean and beautifully presented with the beach practically at your doorstep. My wife and I highly recommend staying at Makayla Palms. We have already told many people of our wonderful experience and they have added Makayla Palms to their wish list.

We stayed at Makayla Palms for 10 night in the October school holiday this year and as usual when leaving Raro we wanted to stay longer. Having been to the island numerous times over the last 30 years I have seen many changes especially in Muri Beach where the road front has been overdeveloped looking like a mini Bali though the night food market is a welcome addition.
Titikaveka Beach is fantastic, the snorkeling right in front of MP is very good and you can have the beach to yourself most of the time apart from the friendly local dogs who are happy to take you for a walk or come and sit in the shade with you for a short visit.

We stayed in Villa Tia closest to the beach and found it very comfortable and perfect for us. John and Rachel were very helpful and sorted out the issue we had with the hot water as soon as they were able. The gardens are very well kept and after meeting and talking with Nga a local planting kumara next door we were taken to his plantation for a tour and given fresh fruit every day afterwards. We used the scooter while staying which was great for getting round the island, down to Muri etc. Our favourite "local" restaurant was Vaima where the food was amazing and had the bonus of a pick up and drop off service at night. Highly recommended also was Charlies which serves huge portions which are enough for 2 in most cases.
I can highly recommend this place and hope to visit again soon.

Room Tip: Villa Tia closest to beach

Thanks so much for your review especially from someone who has visited the island many times before. Yes Titikaveka beach is fantastic with wonderfully safe snorkeling, swimming and kayaking. Of course as you say, the bonus is that you mostly have the beach to yourselves. We recommend Charlie's and Vaima so were very pleased to read that both were highly recommended by you too.
We look forward to your next visit

The three of us stayed at the villa Tiana for 5 nights this past October to celebrate my sister’s 50th birthday, and we all agreed that we couldn’t have find a better place to stay than the Makayla Palms. As we drove around Rarotonga and enjoyed the island, we saw a wide range of accomodations, and quite frankly it was a delight to get back to our villa every day. Rachel’s welcoming sense of hospitality is warm, courteous, always helpful without being intrusive. Her baking goods were so yummy, the villa and the gardens kept impeccably clean. She even arranged a ‘ei’ and a crown of fresh flowers for my sister’s special Island night out. The beach and the lagoon were so enchanting; in fact we had the beach to ourselves most of the time!!! I already miss my sunrise walks on Titikaveka beach every morning. Snorkelling was amazing; what’s left to say? Thank you Rachel for having us....we would definitely come back to the Makayla Palms when we return to the Cook Islands. Highly recommended.
