We had a one bedroom apartment with an enormous balcony overlooking the sea. It was excellent. Maid service was really good. Reception staff were very helpful. It's a smallish resort and the complex isn't in the centre of the really touristy stuff down in Los Gigantes, which suited us perfectly. Busier and more touristy places are easily accessible just by walking down a couple of hills, either down to Los Gigantes or down towards the Barcelo Santiago - which you can't miss. We didn't use the pool because we preferred to swim in the sea. The small beach down at the bottom of the main road, heading south, was lovely and pretty safe for families - most of the locals seemed to use it with quite small children. The entertainment in the complex wasn't our taste and we only went over there a few times for a drink. Do not order the cocktails of the day as they come ready made in bottles and they are revolting. There is a supermarket immediately behind the complex. We didn't hear any disruptive noise from the road at the back or the front during the night and that was with windows open. Across from the post office is Vigilia Park which is a small shopping centre. There is a fantastic cafe/bar in there called Cafe Mi Reina. It's run by a lovely French family. Tapas only cost 2.50 euros each and were really well cooked. They also do a variation of paella using short pasta which was really delicious. Down the main road there is a really nice little bar right opposite the Museum of Fishing, and just round the corner is a really good little grocery shop with very good fruit and vegetables at good prices. A bit further down the road in Puerto Santiago is a lovely Canarian restaurant called Casa Pedro. If you can book a balcony table in the evening, the views are amazing. If you only do one organised trip make sure you go to the volcano El Teide. It's incredible. The local buses are good and we caught one up to Puerto del Cruz, which is lovely but the trip alone was really interesting. If you turn left after Vigilia Park, there is another supermarket that actually has a butchery section which is very good. By buying fresh local food and not stinting ourselves in any way at all, we had a remarkably good value for money holiday. Most of all though, the location of El Marques totally changed my attitude to Tenerife which I'd thought (based on what people had told me) was just a vast tourist resort full of English/Irish/Welsh/Scottish bars. It's beautiful. It's also much hotter than I'd expected and you must be really careful about applying sun tan lotion of a high factor regularly. We saw an awful lot of people who were not only bright red but had some quite serious burns.

Room Tip: Room 22E is brilliant. Looks out over the sea with a huge balcony and we found it fine for noise.

Dear Guest. Thank you for your comments and we are pleased you not only enjoyed El Marques but also discovered there is more to our beautiful island of Tenerife than the man made resorts like Las Americas. For those that take the time to use local services and restaurants a whole new Tenerife can open up as you discovered. The local "Titsa" buses provide an excellent island wide service which is easy to use. Of course the bars are there for those that seek them. The island of Tenerife is near the equator and therefore the UV rays are very strong. Sun tan cream should be used at all times, including cloudy days throughout the year. We hope that you will come back to Tenerife soon and perhaps hire a car to discover our other treasures hidden deep in our mountains.

Just back and we found the resort clean, safe and enjoyable. Apartment although small was well equipped, clean and comfortable. The pool area was well maintained and had a lifeguard 12 hours a day. Only downside was after 4 days we caught on to the "slightly inflated" drink prices from one particular waiter and encountered a poor attitude of another in the restaurant. (We did not eat there again due to this) In summary a good family holiday in a good area.

We stayed in a one bed (Superior) which had everything you needed including a washing machine. The whole experience was just what you always hope for. The reception check-in was quick and efficient and then you are shown to your accomodation. We were on the third floor with smashing full sea view. There is a lift so no climbing endless stairs. A supermarked across the road at rear with its own bakery.(lovely hot bread/rolls,cakes,doughnuts etc). The pool is sheltered from the wind and is clean & heated. The restaurant is large and airy. Good food and some entertainment.
Good maintenance team available...All in all a very, very good resort...We highly recommend El Marques.
Los Gigantes village is a short downhill walk but of course you then have to walk back-up and so you need to be mobile and reasonably fit.

Everything to make your time spent in this resort magic. Staff, Pool, Clean apartments, food in the restaraunt excellent, Only one thing in my opinion lets this fantastic resort down and that is there is no Air Conditioning, making it difficult to sleep and cook in the apartments.
I would like to mention that we as a family booked a table at the Harbour Club to see a tribute act of Queen, However as we arrived we were told in a most offhand manner that the table was booked for six people and there were only three of us, we never had a chance to say the others were on the way.The woman was extreamly rude and we have had other people comfirm this. However this was the only dissapointment to a otherwise great holiday.
