Best Place to be ! I recommend!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 30 Sept 2019via mobile
That's a particular place , inside in a real borgo , you will find the best comfort and atentetion of the region. This is a family's Hotel and you will feel like one of them! Is little hard to find the hotel at first time, but that's make it so special, you can trust in your GPS map and you will not regret! People at neighborhood is very kind and will help you with any informations I highly recommend you spend some time to talk to Lucia and her sister Francesca. Their father also works at Hotel and is a real gentleman and wise man. They are very kind and can help you out with hints of Matera! I personally suggest you spend some time to know better Montescaglioso too, it's a very beautiful place with remarkable landscape and particular historical facts , and not so crowded like Matera, lol. The hotel is 10 minutes far form the historical and a commercial centre, where you can eat and have good time.
All my best wishes to il Borgo Ritrovato, and hope see you ASAP.
I sure left part of me there!
Thanks

We booked into this hotel for one week using it as a 'base camp' for exploring Basilicata. It is located in the old town of Montescaglioso which means that although driving to and from the hotel is a bit of a challenge, all the stores and restaurants are within walking distance. So it was easy exploring town and eating dinners out. (The restaurants in town are excellent, by the way). Although there is no designated parking area for the hotel, it was safe and convenient parking along the street near the hotel entrance.
The family members that own the hotel are exceptional hosts. Everything we needed was accommodated. Breakfasts were wonderful — a large spread including homemade pastries and eggs cooked for us on the spot every morning. Touring information was provided and bookings were done for us. We felt that the family was keeping an eye on us the whole time to ensure we were as comfortable as possible. We really appreciated that. In fact, it felt as though we were treated as honoured guests of the family. It felt special.

The friendly owners at Il Borgo Ritrovato and the residents of Montescaglioso erased any doubts that we had on our decision to not stay in Matera. I can confirm previous reviewers comments on the quality of service, rooms and breakfast, everything is fresh the cheese and jams are homemade. First time in 30 years of staying at Italian B&Bs that we had omelettes not just boiled eggs. Plenty of parking, a coin operated laundry and Ispar supermarket 5-10 minutes walk away. The laundry was clean and I even got an ovation when I finally got my machine going didn’t realise English instructions were on the wall. Most of the people at the Ispar spoke English with a New York accent. I would stay again and would recommend it to others especially if you are coming to Basilicata in high season or in 2019.

This is a family-run hotel with first-class friendly service, from check-in to check-out. Our room was immaculate. The location is ideal, walkable to everything, in a neighborhood of friendly people. Knowing some Italian is very useful, as this town is not a tourist town. The breakfast was not your usual hotel breakfast. Everything was fresh - fresh figs from the family's tree, homemade marmalade from their oranges and apricots, ricotta cheese so fresh it was still warm, fresh mozzarella, assorted meats, amazing breads, and fresh baked goods - all this in an area with an old olive press in the center. When I asked to buy some marmalade, the owner brought me a jar and would not take payment for it. The owners made dining recommendations in town and all were excellent. There are many nearby sights to see, so if you want to go outside of the town, you will need a car. And walking through the town at night was one of our favorite things to do. The whole town is out and about as late as 11. But bring your walking shoes - it's hilly and most streets are cobblestone. We would not hesitate to return to this hotel and this town in the future!
