A cold refreshing towel, glass of fresh passion fruit juice and a cohort of staff with beaming smiles; Sever Sea Lodge, Mombasa, sure read our minds for what we needed on arrival after a morning of tiring travel to reach them.

What we loved about this hotel was its sophistication and elegance, without the compromisation of necessary facilities needed to make it a family friendly resort. For example, Severn Sea Lodge offers a tranquil pool surrounded by sun loungers, perfect for adults who are in need of relaxing. There is also a second pool with an exciting water shoot and waterfall fountain, which went down really well with all the kids on site, including Carmen. The hotel is located on Mombasa beach, offering a wonderful sea breeze accompanied by plenty of outdoor grass space and seats to wind down on.

Meal times were kept interesting and enjoyable with a variety of options, ranging from set 3 course meals on some nights, to extensive buffet style options on others. Breakfast offered the same huge buffet variety, which is just what you need to keep the whole family satisfied. We never take for granted children’s high chairs as some accommodations we have come into contact with in the past don’t provide them, which proves rather difficult when you have a squirming toddler on your lap who you are trying to feed spaghetti to. We were chuffed Sever Sea Lodge provided our little one with a child chair and even went to the trouble of rustling up her very own plate of good old fashioned ‘mash potato and baked beans’ on the night of their set 3 course meal, once we mentioned to them non of the optional dishes were suitable for her.

One aspect we would warn about, though no fault of the hotel’s may we add, is the presence of animals on the grounds. Make sure if you are eating outside around the pools you pay close attention to the crows, who literally steel your food as soon as your back is turned. The same applies for having snacks on the balcony, as cheeky monkeys will be after your goods, and will even come into the room given half the chance if your balcony door is left open (personally happening to us).

The bar area is a lively place to spend the evenings, often hosting traditional Kenyan performances, including music and dancing. It is a good distance from most of the bedrooms, so sound isn’t a problem overall for the majority of rooms, but for a few closer ones, the entertainment may be heard slightly until 10.30 when it is then switched off.

We had a fantastic stay at Severin Sea Lodge, thank you for having us!

We really enjoyed our stay here.
It was exactly as it said it was in the travel guide.
We were warmly greeted by the on duty staff and they carried our bags and escorted us to the room and pointed out the hotels amenities as we went.
Most importantly it was very hot the weather was brilliant sunshine all day for the time of our visit and the stylise village hut accommodation had powerful a/c.
The pool was mostly empty, oh no it has a bar attached cool!
We are not big foodie people so we were pleased with the varied food on offer at the end of a hard days swimming and sunbathing.
Yes. I would visit again it was a pleasant experience but you need too be aware of the political situation and the terror threats just up the Kenyan coast.
We did one short visit in to town but it was filthy and we did not see anything that we required.
After that we stayed in the resort as they had a small shop if we needed more sun cream etc.

We stayed for the fourth and last time this year and several business trips in the past years.

The hotel has absolutely no appreciation for return customers and they have no idea about customer loyalty - so much so that even after booking a week in advance and arriving at the reception they're cold and unfriendly and pretend like they do not know you.

Very rude, unfriendly and unhelpful receptionist "Ednah" and just as rude and unhelpful waitress from the Safari Bar " Rebecca". It is unfortunate that people who clearly do not enjoy being hospitable and helpful have ended up in the wrong industry.

The room-service takes forever and ever, and they couldn't be bothered with any special dietary requests that you may have and good luck if you phone for something from the reception, especially if Ednah is on duty.

Very limited food menu, food quality is terrible and over-priced (for the low quality meals), breakfast is the same every day, entertainment - a repetition every night (that is when they bother to have any).

Except for a couple of hardworking staff, the rest are very disinterested and aloof.

A total rip-off and a sad letdown every single time.

The hotel is situated in a good location on Mombasa's North Coast.
My stay was enjoyable and the environment was conducive even for a three-year-old who accompanied us. The room was spacious with good and spotless clean amenities.
The food was excellent and the services very good. We are also felt comfortable in the hands of the friendly staff who were ready to help all the time. The beach is clean and not crowded, while the vendors were very diplomatic and not pressuring people to buy their wares. When I booked the hotel I was not sure of what to expect but our stay was fantastic!

I stayed a two nights at Severin Sea Lodge due to meetings in Mombasa: all though a fair bit outside the city centre and spending hours in traffic back and forth, it was indeed worth it. The lodge is situated by the sea side, it is peace full and so beautiful. The check in staff- in was very polite, efficient and pleasant. The room is well equipped and spacious. I particularly liked the way the bath room was organized, the bed was equipped with a mosquito net and the mattress was very comfy. The breakfast was delicious with heaps of choices and sitting by the sea side having your breakfast prior to a busy day in Mombasa was simply wonderful. In the evening there was entertainment and possibility for a stroll at the beach before a drink. The staff is lovely, caring and so helpful. I really enjoyed my stay at Severin and will most certainly return, I hope very soon.
