Suidobashi Grand Hotel

Tiny room, but probably pretty standard for Japan. No breakfast--need to add another 1,008 yen. That makes this place very expensive compared to others in the area. No English TV channels, no AC control, and everything is quite dated. And seems to forever have a faint smell of smoke in the air. However, it was pretty much as expected, so not really surprised or disappointed, but definitely not wowed either. Staff was great and the location can't be beat, but I just think there has to be a better choice in the neighborhood.

Was in Tokyo for the Coldplay concert and pretty much every hotel was fully booked or they jacked up the room rates to ridiculous levels. Seeing that this hotel was near the Tokyo Dome and Suidobashi station, we gave this small hotel a try. In terms of accessibility, it is just across the road from LaQua shopping mall and exit A5 of Suidobashi subway station so no problems there.

Reception staff was friendly enough and spoke English reasonably well. The room itself was very basic and tiny. There was hardly space to place luggage and still walk. There was a musty carpet smell and the room was very stuffy and warm. There is air-conditioning but there is no way to adjust the temperature and the air that comes out from the vent is not very cool. We opened the window and it became bearable after an hour. The window faces the side of a building. You can reach out and touch it! I heard noises from the street throughout the night and I had to close the window again, which made the room stuffy again.

The tiny bathroom had a strong damp smell from the shower curtain that made it very uncomfortable to use. There was hardly any space to towel yourself dry as the bathtub looked like it was made for a small child? And no hooks to hang any clothes. At least it was clean and the shower gel and shampoo smelled nice.

Wifi was serviceable but slow or nonexistent during evening peak hours. We did note that there was a small refrigerator but it was not cold at all?

Reception gave a voucher for free breakfast on one of the mornings. The buffet breakfast is pretty basic but it was good enough for me!

I would try for the Tokyo Dome Hotel if you need to stay in the Tokyo Dome area.

The Suidobashi Grand Hotel was a nice business hotel, because of that don't expect much by way of amenities. It's not intended to be lounged in all day, you get a bed, a small desk and a tiny bathroom. If your dream vacation is to sit in a hotel and watch TV all day, this is not the hotel for you. If you want a place to dump your luggage, sleep and shower; this is your place.
The area around the hotel though isn't really that active, I didn't find many bars and the ones I did find were mostly filled with business men and a few women, most likely coworkers. The area seems to have a small focus on traditional Japanese martial arts, at least three shops cater to different types of schools, Kendo/Iado, Karate (the Japanese Karate Association HQ is around the block from the hotel), as well as Judo and a few others.
The hotel is across the street from Tokyo Dome, making it a prime location during game days. However outside of that little else is going on if you're a single individual looking for Tokyo's legendary night light without spending a lot of money on cabs.

I stayed for 4 nights here and had a nice experience. The room was clean. The free shower gel and shampoo had a nice quality. The staffs were friendly. Many restaurants nearby. 5 minutes walk to subway and train station. Only 2 stations away from Tokyo station. Only downside was internet was quite slow. I managed to work with it but it's not so fast for watching video.
