“Very nice business hotel: great value & location”
Reviewed 15 February 2012

Picking a hotel in Tokyo is always a challenge: not only must there be literally thousands of hotels in Tokyo, but Tokyo is pretty much the size of a small country, meaning that location matters--choose a hotel in an inconvenient place and you could be traveling more than an hour just to get from your hotel to where you want to go. Not only that, but Tokyo is less a unified "city" and more a collection of neighborhoods, each with its own atmosphere and charm--from earthy Asakusa to chic Shibuya.

Although Shinjuku is an important district for a number of reasons, from the perspective of the tourist or traveler, I think the most important word is this: convenience. The Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku is located just minutes from Shinjuku station, the transportation hub for the western side of Tokyo. From here, you can take the train or subway virtually anywhere in the city (usually without even the need to transfer) and even further afield (Yokohama, Kamakura ... the airport express to Narita stops here also). Around the station itself are a ton of eating and shopping options as well.

The hotel itself is quite nice, and tends to be a good value (we paid about 10,000 yen for the room in high season), especially for the location. The rooms are on the small size, as is typical for Tokyo, but they are nice and for the location tend to be quiet. The hotel staff were nice. We did not partake of breakfast, as there are many eating options close by.

Overall, a nice "home base" for the Tokyo area: great value and convenient location.

Returning to Tokyo for the first time in 3 years, the Sunroute was an obvious choice: it's close to Shinjuku station, and rates were reasonable. There's currently a lot of rebuilding work around the station, so every time I arrived by train I'd get lost and walk around for 15 minutes, utterly confused, but that says more about me than the hotel.

The hotel rooms aren't enormous but are large enough for you not to feel trapped inside a rabbit hutch. The shower is good and powerful, and the mirrors are still heated so they don't fog up when you shower. Internet in the rooms is free (via cable, rather than wifi) which is very nice when other hotels would prefer to charge you through the nose for this.

Breakfast is a little bit expensive for what you get - a buffet with quite a lot of bread products, not much in the way of fruit - but the restaurant in the evening gives a decent array of Italian food.

The airconditioning in the room is rather complicated to work (there's a whole page in the guide to the room explaining what everything does) but it does keep you warm on those chilly February nights in Tokyo. Bed was very comfortable and the room was nice and quiet (on the 7th floor, facing away from the station, which seems to be a consistent charm in achieving a decent night's sleep)

Stayed there for 2 nights with my boyfriend. Great location, close to Shinjuku station (Narita Express stops at Shinjuku station). Shinjuku is a fun place at night time. Within walking distance of many sightseeing and great places to visit around Tokyo, you can get a real taste for big city life. Lots of bars and restaurants. Nearby The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (free entrance and lovlely views of Tokyo).

Room Tip: Double economy room is tiny but not a problem.

This is a very basic hotel that offered me exactly what I wanted: a clean bed to stay in and a central base from which to explore the city. If you are looking to relax in your room, this is not the hotel for you. If you are in Tokyo to explore, it has a double bed, internet, and bathroom (though how they squeeze it all in I am not sure). Considering the location and city, the price was reasonable (at JPY 14,300 per night)

Room Tip: Choose exit from train station carefully, there are loads to choose from

Kaye & Sandra from Adelaide. S.A. Hotel was great, sooo close to every thing and especially the train station. We were two ladies travelling together, we found the twin room just the right size for us . Only criticism we had was that there was no microwave on our floor (in the drink machine room). We found one down stairs with the washing machines. Our stay was for 1 month and was so lovely to have room rubbish removed everday and our sheets changed whanever we wanted. Housekeeping staff very friendly and obliging. Same for front office, could'nt help us enough. I am about to return to Japan and will be staying again.
