Tokyo has thousands of hotels; trying to find one that suits budget, location and accommodates personal requirements takes time and great patience.
Dai-ichi hotel Ryogoku hit all our preferences and more. Room 2316 overlooks the Sky Tower, amazingly lit up at night, and gives such a view of the city that one can consider not needing to buy a ticket for the Tower! One simply needs to walk across the corridor to see the other side of the city!
The room was well appointed, roomy and amazingly quiet saying that Ryogoku JR station is five minutes away, walking. The trains do stop running overnight but kick in around 6:45am, so my wife told me; a light sleeper may find this annoying but it was fine for me.
The breakfasts, on The 25th floor, offered Japanese and western food, plenty of it, all presented and prepared to very high standards: well worth buying the option.
The restaurant on the ground floor served lovely cuisine to an excellent standard well within most budgets and certainly a better deal than many a London restaurant.
On all occasions the staff were superb; those on reception spoke English and others were able to understand if not quite fluent.
Would I stay there again? Absolutely! Obviously, prices vary according to season and your lead-in time so one must factor these into your assessment.

I've stayed at this hotel a couple of times on separate visits, and would recommend this place for a cheaper option stay, but still have breathtaking views of the city day or night!

It is also convenient located with many transport links, and only a 10 min train journey from Tokyo main station.

It is in a quiet location away from the city yet not too far from most downtown attractions. Pretty safe neighbourhood with mostly middle aged people and families. There are eateries around the JR station, a family mart and some pastry shops around the hotel. Room is quite small but enough to sleep in for a few nights if you're going to be out and about most of the days. Toiletries, alarm, air filter, coffee and tea, bottle water, hair dryer, slippers, bathrobes, towels are all well stocked for our room. Breakfast is limited but good enough for a hearty meal before we start the day. Staff are quite friendly and helpful though they can't speak much English. And having such a panaromic view of the city for a downtown hotel is very rare. I rate it 4-star because I wish the hotel will refurbish the rooms with more modern facilities like a more spacious shower instead of a tub so taller and bigger people don't have to feel crammed up while taking their shower, and upgrade the room to make more space for luggage bags and movement. I know some modern boutique hotels are smaller but they create space by removing all the loose furniture and building in shelves to replace tables, wall mounted TV panel etc.

Room Tip: Go for the twin room instead of the moderate double if it's available. It is slightly bigger.

This was an excellent hotel. My family of three and I stayed here for a week. This hotel is part of the good neighbor hotels and offer a complimentary shuttle to Disneyland and Disney Seas. This was very helpful! Our room had a great view and location. The hotel is close to restaurants, 7-11, Lawsons, a park with a playground next door, and the Ryogoku E12 stop on the Oedo line.
