Modern retro vibe, but no old world charm.

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 9 Dec 2024via mobile
This hotel in the old part of Tokyo in Asakusa has a fittingly retro vibe. Tatami mat bedrooms, comfortable bedding. The bathroom was not too small but the floors were ferociously stone cold. No underfloor heating, so be warned! Convenient location for Senso-ji, Kappabashi and the Tobu Skytree station for Nikko.

But beyond the Japanese interior & decor, we were also looking forward to the Japanese grace that you find in traditional ryokans. Sadly, the “omotenashi” was missing. Such a shame.

as a solo traveller this place was perfect however the only reason I gave it four and not five is because during the hot summer season AC cannot cope with the hottest of the weather so sometime at night you may feel hot everything else is perfect the bath the room the Internet the breakfast.

A great location that is within 5-10min walk of the Asakusa Station, the Sensoji Temple, the Tokyo Skytree and all the joys of Asakusa eateries and drinking holes

The decor is a modern twist of the traditional ryokan style and it works well

The rooms were cozy, but never felt crowded, due to the tatami style beds and set up of the room and bathroom
Our water bottles were topped up everyday and they had plenty of other drink options in the lobby too
Whole place was clean and quiet and offered that zen like feeling you would expect

Staff were all friendly and extremely proficient in speaking English - even offered the ability to leave a suitcase behind, knowing we would be returning to Tokyo after 10 days of exploring other parts of Japan, which was a huge blessing
We basically left behind the case full of all the shopping we did in Tokyo 🤦🏻‍♂️😂
This made life sooo much easier for us as we travelled around the rest of Japan

A typhoon struck us when we stayed, so we were extremely fortunate that on the second floor, they had a very good restaurant with a wonderful waitress and top chef - saved us getting caught in the high winds and heavy rain

Looking forward to coming back…and to also collect our case before we fly out 😊

We stayed as a family of 4 in a corner twin room with sky tree view (level 11). We found Prostyle Ryokan to be a delightful new boutique hotel with quality fixtures and fittings. Traditional style with tatami mats and bedding on the floor. Best features were the large balcony looking out over the Sumida River and the Skytree, and the deep semi-open air bath (although this is very enclosed). Room size is not large and the ceiling height is quite low, but bathroom is big. Not too much interaction with staff, but the lobby is pleasant and free tea and coffee available by the entrance.

Room tip: Book a room with skytree view!

Great hotel tor families with young children, there us a lovely playpark opposite the hotel and next to the river. Rooms are very comfortable with huge bathrooms and nice balconies. Tea and coffee are available all day on the ground floor.
Location is great for exploring Asakusa and is very close to Asakusa station on the Ginza line.
We didn’t eat at the hotels so can’t comment on breakfast

We had a wonderful stay with our family at Prostyle Asakusa!

The hotel marries the beauty of a Japanese ryokan with the convenience of modern designs. The rooms are clean and well designed. Our family stayed at the corner suite with open air bath and sky tree view and corner twin with partially open air bath and sky tree view. They were both clean and spacious and have amazing views of the sky tree from the balcony.

The location is great as well! Not only is the hotel walking distance to the cultural landmarks of Sensoji and Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) and also very close to Skytree (which at one point was the tallest tower in the world), it is surrounded by a lot of great restaurants and cute streets like Hoppy Street (Hoppy Street/Hoppy Dori is one of Asakusa’s most famous locations for eating and drinking). Asakusa is the perfect blend of cultural heritage and great food! The hotel is also very close walking distance to the metro (including the Ginza and Asakusa lines) and is only 12-17 mins metro away from Ginza and has a convenience store nearby.

All of the staff that we have met are wonderful, friendly and super helpful as well as speaking fluent English and Chinese. They helped us to arrange a rickshaw tour of Asakusa, which was really fun and enjoyed by our whole family!
