Description: The Twice Brewed is set amongst some of the most breathtaking scenery in England and stands in the shadows of Steel Rigg, without doubt one of the most dramatic parts of Hadrian’s Wall. The Inn is situated on the B6318 (The Military Road) midway between Newcastle Upon Tyne in the East and Carlisle in the West and is close to all the main Roman sites – Vindolanda, Housesteads and The Roman Army Museum. The Inn is on the popular Pennine Way route and welcomes walkers with a drying room and other facilities. We are also on the Hadrians Cycleway (Route 72) and near the Sandstone Way cycle route. We are 4 miles away from Haltwhistle train station and 15 miles away from Hexham train station

Considering the history of the place , it's great to see a brewery once again at the 'Twicey'
The story is that when the Military road was being built in the 1700s, the navvies complained about the beer at the local inn, saying it was ' so weak it should be Twice Brewed'
So now it sells cleverly named Ale Caesar, and other quirky brews. Definitely worth seeking out-- brewery tours and tastings can be arranged.

Good parking and tidy on appearance. Young staff and had to ask for my pint to 'clearly' be topped up @ £3.60 a pint it was nice but well-well overpriced.
2nd night l went in, very quiet and waited at empty bar for 2 minutes before l left...unserved.
Bar is geared up as a restaurant and priced that way.

Food was fine and quite imaginative. Habe drunk the same pint in other pubs that were much better. Service was quick and efficient without ever being welcoming.

After experiencing the freezing weather at Hadrians Wall,, March 2018, we had a lovely warm welcome at The Twice Brewed Inn.
The steak and ale pie was delicious, with plenty of fresh vegetables. The service was quick and the staff were very friendly.
Would go there again if in the vicinity.

We recently stopped here for lunch to break up a long drive, during a very cold wintery day. We’d been here before, so it was nice to revisit it rather than drive round looking for somewhere.
It was warm and welcoming, just what we wanted.
Good lunchtime menu too, although we just had light bites. I had the duck two ways, pate and smoked duck breast, and my husband had a hot beef sandwich. Both meals were very nice, and well presented.
The service was cheerful and speedy.
Well worth a visit.
