Arrived after a day of hiking along the Pennine Way. The pub gave us a very friendly welcome and were very relaxed about the mud that came with us. After a cold hike we needed to sort ourselves out and have a long hot shower or bath. Unfortunately the room we were given was exceedingly small, I’m not sure if this is true of all rooms but it looked nothing like the photos and it was impossible to stand up on one side of the bed without hitting your head. There was barely room to open our bags, made worse by the cupboard door not closing which kept opening into the room. However, the biggest disappointment was the shower which we couldn’t get that hot and was so weak I could barely rinse the mud off or wash my hair.
On the plus side, staff were lovely and helpful and food was fantastic, especially the breakfast. I’d suggest you come and eat but try somewhere else to stay if you want room to swing a rucksack and a hot shower!

We had a 2 night break here last weekend. We stayed in the new barn conversion - stunning room/building with all sorts of nice touches from hot water bottles, plenty of tea and coffee, eye masks etc. Decent size double with a super comfy super king bed and still enough room with the added camp bed for the 9 yr old. The pub itself was everything a country pub should be.... great food, log fires, dogs and brimming with walkers and guests. Really friendly staff, a great gin menu and stunning countryside. Divine! My only slight criticism would be that the specials on the menu remained the same all weekend, even though the restaurant and pub was packed out. As we were eating two nights, it would have been nice to have had different specials on both nights, but that is a small thing. We will be back on our own one day hopefully!
