Visited for a special family birthday with my 1 year old and a disabled child. We were 'told' by the waitress Julie that we were causing an obstruction and were obviously making her Sunday very difficult. Left before the main course arrived. Starters were average at best.

I am sorry to read that you were not satisfied with your visit last week of which your opinion was drawn that we are not family friendly.

I feel it only fair to say that I was extremely surprised to read your review, for two reasons. Firstly, we do welcome families and we hold a range of table top activities to keep the smaller children and toddlers entertained so, hopefully, their parents can enjoy their time with us too. We have many families in each week and we also have many 'family parties' booked - specifically because we do welcome children and some of these repeatedly come back to us. We also hold a Children's Halloween and a Children's Christmas party annually. Secondly, Julie is our most experienced member of staff with regard to children. She is from a teaching background in nursery/primary education and is extremely accepting and engaging of our smaller guests paying particular attention to the welfare of each child.

As I am sure you will appreciate, whilst any customer is on our premise, we have to ensure theirs, and our staffs', safety and wellbeing and unfortunately this sometimes means that occasionally we are put in a position whereby we have to enforce restrictions for areas of 'play' which could lead to potential harm . This includes thoroughfares and area's of access where the staff are carrying hot food and beverages to, and from, the kitchen / customers.

I am sincerely sorry that you interpreted these actions as us not being family friendly.

We visited the end of February for a birthday celebration meal.
It's a lovely traditional old pub ideal for a winter's evening with plenty of on site parking.
The food was excellent and the service first rate.
There was a slight mix up with the order (one meal was forgotten so the wait time was extended while it was prepared). However, the waitress apologised and didn't charge for the late meal which was a very nice touch.
Would definitely recommend.

Pretty much dead in the water a few year's back, but now offers a menu which goes from standard fare to gastropub standard food. Not wild about the black decor, but the beer is good, the staff efficient and the chef is very competent.

Great place to stay, close to Beverley and Hull. The bedrooms are quiet being away from main building. My one complaint was soft bed, but my preference is for harder mattress. Ate in restaurant on Friday night, great food at reasonable prices. Friendly staff and they also are a Camra affiliated bar with a range of local beers to sample.
