We stayed for two nights for a friend's wedding and it was a good base for that. Friendly staff, good location and comfortable room. The breakfast was the highlight, enormous as it was! A particular thanks to the night porter who checked us in very late after a night out in Edinburgh. We would recommend it.

We booked this hotel as we were at a wedding at Dalhousie Castle and they were full. What a fantastic find!
I don't know how to explain this, but when we first arrived we had some reservations. The location is not quite what we imagined. It was in a rather more built up area than we imagined for a retreat and first impressions of the bar was busy and a bit publike.
We needn't have worried. As soon as we were welcomed our initial concerns vanished the staff were friendly and efficient annd as others have said already the room we had (room 6 I think) was beautiful and easily as good as the rooms at Dalhousie but less than half the price.
What really makes this place though are the staff. The owner, Jude, is lovely and makes you feel welcome and obviously enjoys her work. All the other staff we found equally fiendly and helpful and they really gave us a great weekend break. We ate here on Friday evening. The bar was lively and full of interesting bits and pieces and the food was very good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was fab and set us up for the day.

Room Tip: go for room 6,7 or 8 in the old part of the hotel. They are over the bar so can be a little noisey u...

Thank you Jude for returning my coat. My husband was trying to be helpful when he hung it in the wardrobe, he forgot and I didn't know it was there. We had a lovely stay with you all and have wonderful pictures of your place at night....as you say "brilliant"! We would recommend anyone visiting your area to stay with you all. Thanks again for the return of my coat............sincerely J and L Briggs

Wonderful family run hotel with fantastic service. The hotel is a striking building which oozes character and style. The bar is fab and is uniquely decorated. The multitude of random things hanging on the walls should look tacky, but it really works and is great. Food is basic but nice and well priced. Overall a good hotel.
