A relaxed and chilled environment which makes a great venue for sharing meals with friends.
We went with the tasting menu and we will not let down by the selection. The best surprise was the beef tartare as we are not great fans of raw beef however this was simply divine.

The only down side was the wait in between serving which at times felt like we were there for two separate meals.
Besides that it was a wonderful evening of great meals, drinks and company
Definitely will be back again

We dined at this restaurant last week. Our booking was at 7.00 and we arrived on time. Our order wasn't taken until 7.30pm and we chose the 'feed me' option or whatever it was titled. Our first dish arrived after 8.30pm - a dish of a chicken pate of some kind and a small salad for our pregnant guest. We were disappointed we had to wait so long. By this stage we were starving.
It took some time again (maybe 40 minutes or so) for our second dish to arrive. We asked the waiter at some stage where the food was and we were dismissed with a 'yeah, yeah yeah, its coming.' There was no apology or offer of a drink or anything. It was also around 9pm and all we had eaten was a small hor d'oeuvre.

The next dishes then arrived fast and furious, and we were out of there by 9.30pm.
The food really was very good and I don't fault it. It was beautifully presented and delicious. However all things considered, we shouldn't have had to have waited an hour and a hour for a pate, and then another 30-40 minutes for the second dish only to be bombarded with food. We spent three quarter of the night starving and the last quarter we were bursting at the seems. Most disappointingly was the manner in which we were shooed off by the staff when we queried the delay.
Excellent food but if the dishes were spaced out appropriately, we would have enjoyed the evening much more.

This spot was chosen for us by one of our local friends and it's not hard to see why. The venue is lovely; the wait staff are very helpful and friendly and the service was quick, given we were a large party of 10 and it was a busy Saturday night. We were seated in a dining room at the back of the restaurant, which Is great for groups.

Bookings are recommended as the restaurant was full. We enjoyed a shared banquet with generous serving sizes. The restaurant also catered for our pregnant guest by serving certain sauces separately. The duck, mussels and chips were all delicious but I think the dessert beat them all.

This restaurant also has a large wine/ cocktail selection.

Highly recommended.

We had a mix up with our reservation (long story short we accidentally turned up on the wrong day), but the restaurant was so great about it and managed to find us a table despite being fully booked on a Saturday night. Food and service were both excellent.

Wow we had a bad experience. From our experience Hell of the North is over rated. We booked after seeing the strong rating for Hell of the North. It was our anniversary and we wanted something special. What a bitter disappointment. We ordered before 3 tables around us and we were the last to be served by a very long time. We had to ask where our meals were. They seemed to have no clue we were forgotten until we asked. Our sides arrived when we were nearly finished our mains. We ordered the duck and John Dory for mains. Both were very average. My wife orders duck at every restaurant that serves it. Hell of the North's duck was on the dry side and consequently rather tasteless. The John Dory was similarly disappointing and it was a very small serving portion - and we were told to order the John Dory instead of the Ocean Trout as Ocean Trout would be too small for me! The Ocean Trout main must be tiny. The heros of the evening were two vegetable dishes - and how sad is that. We really enjoyed the baked broccoli vegetable dish and the cauliflower side. Hell of the North tables are very close and there is a good amount of stone wall, so the place becomes very noisy as patrons imbibe. They have a good wine list. Have they become complacent and dropped their standards? We think so. We will not return and we do not recommend Hell of the North.
