Early October, in the sun. What could be better? This was our first visit and we ate indoors. Glorious old French farmhousy building and good food to match.

Menu de jour, three courses, 18€ which is excellent considering where it is on the confluence of the Vesere and Dordogne rivers. Our meal was very good and not the usual touristy stuff, 25€ each with apero, wine and coffee.

Parking might be a problem if they are busy but there is an additional car park a short distance further on.

We have visited this family run restaurant many times and have never been disappointed. The chef makes the best piazzas we have ever eaten - try the small gateau with the hot chocolate centre - divine.
Well supported by holiday makers and regulars it is a truly rural French experience not to be missed if visiting Limeuil.

On our last night we decided to go for dinner, place we'd thought of happened to be closed (as a lot are on a Sunday) so I took to TA to find somewhere close by ( we are staying in Le Bugue). Chose Le Chai and boy was it a great decision! A warm and friendly welcome even though our French isnt great. Beautiful restaurant with beautiful traditional French cuisine which is a welcome meal as most places offer the same old crepes/nuggets etc. Our meal of scallops €14 starter btw worth every penny, beetroot and cheese starter (menu de jour 19e for 3course), salmon with risotto 22e and toulouse sausages of the menu de jour were just divine! Desserts of framboise and creme brulee were just as delicious. Kids enjoyed 3course meal for 10e. And the lady/owner could not have been nicer. After many visits and restaurants in france this is definitely our favourite. If its fast food or quick service you want this isn't for you bur if you respect good food and a relaxed meal DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE! We'll definitely be back on our next trip to this stunning area!

We ate lunch here on a hot August day. We got there early just after 12 which was good because the place filled up quickly. We sat in the barn which gave good shade but one or two spiders. The place felt very comfortable.

The menu du jour was good as were the pizzas. There were some good local beers and wine choice and the place was fairly priced. They had the most extensive list of ice creams ever including pepper!

The inside was old fashioned but fine.

A nice experience near to the river.

We bought some of the beer at a local brasserie which was nice - in fact it was so good they were advising that one beer could not be drunk for a few days to let it calm down.

Part of our Bruno chief of police tour.
