Rooms are super old. Doesn’t look like to the pictures in the website. Bad area.
Rooms smell bad.
Rude stuff. Clueless. Poor hospitality. You can get much better hotel with what you pay in there.
Very disappointed.

We stayed in a Superior Room, King Bed. Very comfortable, clean. Staff were always helpful and friendly. Very happy with the location of this resort as was directly across the street from beautiful Karon Beach and had many dining choices in walking distance. The grounds were beautifully kept. Breakfast was always plentiful and had many options---it truly would be hard to criticize unless you were very picky. It was Low Season when we went, and very quiet thus no issues with finding pool lounges. Also lovely that the Resort does not allow people 'reserving a pool spot' like what happens in Mexico. Easy to get a taxi right on the street outside the hotel. I'm surprised at comments that the property is showing signs of wear. It is Thailand, and it is humid. Yes, its not brand new but hard to criticize. The only possible negative comment would be that meals/beverages are costly in comparison to restaurants or lounges just down the road, enough so that we rarely ever ate there. Of course, this is not unusual for Resorts----this one included.

Very enjoyable trip. Staff always helpful and friendly.
Pool and swim up bar were a hit - especially as the boys could also get ice cream!
Pakboong in the restaurant at night had room numbers and most meals sorted as we arrived. Need to work on variety next time!

In advance of any trip, I take the time to read the “terrible” reviews on TripAdvisor because they’re usually quite entertaining, and often quite telling. So with that in mind here’s my “very good” review of the Movenpick Karon Beach Resort & Spa, stayed for 4 nights at the end of our two-week vacation to SE Asia..

ROOMS: yes, they’re somewhat dated, yes, there was indeed a speck of mold on the shower curtain. There’s the big complaints seen in some of the bad TA reviews. And so what? If you’re booking week-long holidays in order to sit in a room and marvel at the tile floors, you’re doing it wrong. The only problem we had was a lack of water pressure in the shower on our first night which they fixed literally within 5 minutes of making the call to the front desk. Our experience overall was just fine.

FOOD: Lack of variety? Are these negative reviewers kidding? I didn’t have the same thing for breakfast each of 4 days we spent here. And it was good. And I’m a NYC ‘foodie’ so I think I can speak to tasty food. Admittedly, the a la carte options can be expensive, so we limited our in-resort dining to a snack by the pool and a bite at Mint near the beach. Here is the area where value off premises may be better, but what we did have at Movenpick was good.

POOL: read several negative reviews that mention the depth of the pool. Yeah, there’s part of it that’s like 3m deep… and the remaining 75% is less than half a meter deep. And not once did I see a lifeguard doing anything other than paying focused attention on everything in that pool, and another lifeguard who got in the pool and played ball with some kids in a manner which actually kept them away from the deeper part. Maybe the complainers about the pool should have payed more attention to their own children, maybe as much as the lifeguards did during our visit… pool is awesome, period!

STAFF: consistently pleasant and always helpful. How is it that some reviewers complain that the staff make you sign for your purchases right away? For heaven’s sake, that’s their JOB. It’s sort of what happens when you go on vacation and expect food drinks and services. Don’t want to sign bills? Go buy a six-pack of Chang at the 7-11 right outside the resort. Ridiculous. Staff were fantastic with us.

MOSQUITOES: yep, oh my lord, there’s mosquitoes in tropical Thailand. Listen, if you’re looking for a break from mosquitoes go to Greenland on holiday. Otherwise, buy a bug spray at the previously mentioned 7-11 and get on with it. I wasn’t bitten ONCE even while dodging some pterodactyl-sized bugs buzzing around after a rain shower, and I’m usually a mosquito magnet wherever I go. Grow up folks.

All in all, we had a very enjoyable stay at the Movenpick and although admittedly the resort can use some refreshing and could certainly offer better value for food, the “terrible” reviews on TA appear to be utter nonsense written by miserable folks.

Good job Movenpick, we’d return and stay again. Thanks for the nice time in Karon Beach!
