Stayed 3 nights in Feb 2015 at one of the two blue bungalows right at the waterfront overlooking the Mekong.

We ended up there because ALL of the 20-30 bungalow resorts we passed by before were full! And we arrived at mid-day... Supposedly it is not always that busy but the past few days seemed to be quite crowded.

The bungalows are 2 min walk north of the old French railway bridge.

The bungalows were one of the very few I saw that had two single beds. Each equipped with a mosquito net. Fan & Hot shower as well. Clean sheets and hard mattress. Of course you get two hammocks on the front porch overlooking the river to take in the relaxed atmosphere.
It is still just a simple bungalow but absolutely worth the money. 80.000 kip for two people when we stayed there.

Ate once at the restaurant where the food was also reasonably priced and good. The owner was a bit annoyed that we didn't eat at her restaurant all the time, but that is alright. They mostly earn money with selling food and sell bus tickets rather then the rooms. She speaks only little English - but that doesn't change anything about the great location.

Beware that the French colonial bridge and these bungalows are at the very far Southern end of Don Det. With the boat you will most likely arrive at the very north. So it is a good 3km from the boat landing. As there are basically no tuktuks and motos on the island you will have to walk...

If you have backpacks you can rent a bicycle (10.000kip/day) close the landing and pay in advance to keep it overnight and cycle down along the Mekong to reach this place.

Enjoy Don Det!

Spent twelve days on beautiful Don Det. Ate at Thawan Daeng pretty much everyday. Sometimes twice a day! Some of the best food and service on the island, and Mama is a personality not to be missed. I always felt and home here. Can't wait to make it back.
