In Malampuzha we have only a handful of choice accommodation and the KTDC garden house easily surpasses its runner up Govardhan resorts in most aspects expect for the food served. First of all it is in a stunning location on a hill top overlooking the dam & garden on one side and the lush green mountains on the other. Rooms are very spacious although a bit old fashioned, but who will say no to a pretty generous balcony and Verandah where children can run around freely. A big courtyard and parking area where one can enjoy the palakkadan breeze late into the evening. But the restaurant was not properly maintained and there were only Chappathis and few limited dishes for the dinner .The next time in Malampuzha we stayed at Govardhan resorts. Although not at all a bad choice, we missed the garden house badly and so visited there to try the lunch & enjoy the afternoon. Again only meals were served and with fish curry was priced at an exuberant rate . Overall I think this property is terribly under-utilized and it has the potential to become one of the best tourist hotel in Kerala.

This hotel is by far the best to stay in when you visit Malampuzha. Whenever I visit here, I always stay in Garden House.
Located atop a hill and with not many people around, you can appreciate nature at it's best, and get a great view of the Malampuzha dam and gardens.
The employees are friendly, food is really good, water is fresh. And the rates are absolutely reasonable.
There used to be a bar but that has been closed down (so no drunken brawls to disturb you!)

Room tip: Since not many people visit here, when you arrive, make sure they clean up the floors and tidy the rooms well before you stay there.

The hotel was an impromptu stop recommended by a young couple I met while visiting Pallakad Fort. On the plus side the hotel has a wonderful location with stunning views of the hills and Malampuzha Dam. My room was basic and in dire need of redecoration, the bedding had been washed but had holes in the sheets and old stains were visible, I had no view from the room as the windows were so dirty I couldn't see out of them. The toilet didn't flush but to be fair was promptly repaired by the receptionist. The restaraunt wasn't open and given the late hour I had a room service meal which was edible but lukewarm and uninspiring.

KTDC are performing a disservice to tourism in the area, the location is magnificent and the basic structure of the hotel is fine, with a little investment in maintenance and additional staff this could be a really nice hotel.

We planned for a relaxing year-end vacation at Palakkad- and considered the Garden House for a perfect setting; with the Malampuzha dam nearby and mountains in view and a fair distance from the hustle and bustle of the town.

We had booked the Hotel over phone, and arrived in the afternoon from Palakkad town (Rs.80 by Auto-rickshaw/Tuk Tuk). The location was fantastic, bang next to the cliff and with panoramic views over the dam and the mountains around. We felt that we really made the right choice!

We were really disappointed when we looked at the hotel, it was quite run-down. The rooms were not maintained and the window hinges were broken. One bright spot, however, the toilets were super clean!! The bedsheets certainly needed a change and the beds creaked.. .well you could not get everything for Rs575 per night for a double, but we would not have felt bad paying Rs900 for a slightly well-kept room.

Service can be terrible, and you can have a tough time explaining what you need, because most staff, although smiling and eager to help, suffer from terrible bouts of amnesia. Some of them do not speak English and only understand Malayalam and Tamil. Our requests from fresh towel and daily housekeeping fell on deaf ears- apparently, they do not have a policy of changing towels and room cleaning everyday!!

The restaurant below has limited choice to begin with, which is further truncated when you ask them about availability! Most items we had asked for were not available, so you are left with 3-4 dishes to choose from for your lunch and dinner. Given that there are not many restaurants around this location, you feel largely disappointed.

KTDC really has to get their act together to develop this property, as this is really a prime location. Service needs lot of improvement!
