Bintan Lagoon Resort
Ranked #6 of 8 Hotels in Lagoi
Reviewed 15 June 2011

Stayed at the Angsoka Villa with my husband and 4 other friends (total 6 of us). The villa is really huge and spacious within.

Upon arrival at the ferry, we were ushered to a bus where we waited for the fellow Bintan Lagoon Resort stayers to board the bus. The bus was leaking water from its aircon in one of the rear seats though.

I think the bus journey to the resort took about 30mins? Along the way, there were lots of greeneries after greeneries.. I even spotted some monkeys playing on the roadside!

Upon arrival, we were served a plum juice alike welcome drink. The check in process took us about 20 mins as we had to wait for the buggy/villa operator to show us to our villa. Each villa had a battery chargeable buggy, where the charger was right at the porch. We had fun taking turns to drive the buggy to and from the villa and the main lobby.

There were a total of four rooms at the second floor of the villa, and there were 3 bathrooms so it was very convenient for the 6 of us to take turn using it. The rooms were clean although they do look abit worn. The twin beds were like on rollers, where they moved easily when I toss and turn in bed.

We definitely enjoyed our private pool to ourselves but me and another friend had suffered some scratches on our toes from the chipped tiles on the pool floor. Our pool was clean on the first day when we arrived (we stayed 3 nights) but by the 2nd day onwards, the pool surface had floating flies, leaves and other insects which we found them abit gross. It will be good if the resort cleans the pool daily or once every two days.

The public pool is also gorgeous, and big too! We enjoyed ourselves with a game of basketball which could be borrowed, at no charge, from the staff stationed at the pool. The staff a the pool side bar was also friendly and our order of Mango margarita was served within 5minutes. Delicious! One thing to note is that the jacuzzi at the pool was pretty weak. Didn't really feel the power of the water stream though.

Room service was pretty fast too and our food arrived still hot/warm. We find the room service food was excellent. For the breakfast, it was more or less the same menu. Selection of food is not wide but okay. For our last night of our stay, we dined at the seafood restaurant on the beach. It was an expensive one but the food was good!

Overall, we like the large villa and especially its private pool. Our deal was really good but just that the services within the resort are a tad too pricey. Best thing of all, it's the company of friends and loved ones which will make the trip more enjoyable. =)

I'd read up a lot on Bintan Resorts and searched for pictures of it on flickr and here. I saw a lot of negative comments and good ones as well, and so I wasn't sure how it would turn out. The responses to negative comments from the management (on this site) didn't inspire confidence. I was worried it would be a ramshackle resort. But I was VERY pleasantly surprised. It was good; the reviews here gave this resort an unfair rating. I didn't see the entire resort, but what I saw was all good.

We were in rooms 2048 and 2050 on the ground floor. It's sea-facing (not sea-view) but I guess you can get a glimpse of the sea room higher floors. You check in only at 3PM though - if you're lucky you can get the rooms earlier. Check out is at 12. Sucks. There's free shuttle buses to the Ferry terminal. Everything is priced in Singapore dollars though. The converted rupiahs I had were of no use, though you can use them at checkout to pay expenses. However bringing SGD should serve you well.

The rooms were spacious, clean and well kept. Bathrooms were clean and nice too. I didn't experience any negatives that I saw mentioned in other posts. No bed bugs, bad towels or anything of the sort other people mentioned. I got what was advertised. The walk to the pool was a short distance away. The pool doesn't have the greatest quality water. It didn't have the usual chlorine smell too. There's a bar where you can buy drinks in the pool. Can play water polo too.

The lunch buffet and the free breakfast buffet were excellent. High priced though as expected. Waiters were courteous to our requests. Didn't do much of activities. Just lazed around by the room balcony or the pool. There's a live bad in the lobby. We had some drinks and settled in for some music.

The place is great. They have cleanest beach and awesome in house resturaunts. The buffet breakfast has tonnes of variety. As soon as you reach the resort, the welcome drink is offered with a welcome dance. Its really a pleasure to see that, after a long journey.
Truely cut out from whole of the world.
They should include some more inhouse activities.

Have stayed here before so knew what to expect. Rooms are a great improvement, however bathroom need renovating - the position of the shower in our 2 rooms meant the rooms flooded each time someone had a shower unless they lay down I'm the bath. And the door handle came off from the inside of one our rooms leaving my husband locked inside (and no phone to call for help). Resort is great, lots to do and great for the kids. We went with a group of friends (5 families) however dinner time proved a challenge for the wait staff. it took them forever to take the orders but the orders were correct. When it came to getting the bill this exercise would take approx 40 mins to get the items right per room/couple. One of the restaurants the meals were so slow it was 11pm by the time we'd finished eating mains and when we asked for desert menu they said the kitchen had closed - they should have informed us this and perhaps hurried and got the meals in a more timely manner to avoid this issue.
When trying to order meals for the kids around 5.30pm we were told the pool kitchen closed at 4.30 yet the book in the rooms said the pool food was open till 7pm. Had to order room service and get delivered to the pool. Seriously what's with that ..... It all comes out of the same kitchen.
Other than that everything else made for a fantastic weekend away with friends.

Wow, what a beautiful place. The huge atruim that greets you leaves a lasting impression. The resort offs spacious, comfortable rooms. There are plenty of resturants but these are pricey (We found room service and the terrace bar to be the best value for money)

All of the staff members were amazing! The service couldn't be faulted. The rooms are exactly as pictured. The location is quite remote and a taxi on way to the nearest 'town' is S$22.

What I liked best: The awesome service and relaxed nature of the place

What I liked least: How expensive the holiday ended up being. Bring supplies of fizzy drinks with you as these are $4++ (Plus service plus tax) and snacks to kerb your hunger paids. Utilise the $6 Shuttle to the local 'town' and shop at the local dairy - these are economical for supplies. Also - The local beauty/ salon's in the town will often drop you back to the hotel but they can not collect you from the hotel so catch the shuttle in, have a massage and grab a feed before heading back.

Although this island is Indonesian the resorts and surronds are priced much like Singapore, resorts especially so, Dob't bargin on a cheap holiday because this is Indonesia (I fell into that trap)

PS: The breakfast included is amazing and often, if timed right, could tide us over until dinner

Room Tip: opt for a room with breakfast included

Dear valued guest

Thank you for your compliments for our resorts and the service of our staff.

We do understand that many guests would expect dining to be cheaper on an Indonesian island. However, as we operate as a resort, we are expected to cater food of higher standards and as many of our resources have to be imported, it does add to the costs and hence resulting in higher prices.

You may also like to note that from time to time we will be offering some value deals and currently we are offering the Summer Hot Deals promotion which includes meals. This promotion provides good value for money.

We thank you for your comments and input and look forward to welcoming you to the resort again soon.
