The Nirwana Resort Hotel is a well appointed hotel on the beach with all the facilities you need. We travelled in a group of 5, 3 adults and 2 children (ages 1 and 3). We came the week before Christmas so the hotel was busy.
I wonder what this place was like pre Covid. It seems like the last three years have taken its toll and there doesn’t seem like much money invested in this resort.
Pros
1) Great location right on the beach.
2) Suite rooms are a great size and comfortable to stay in.
3) Pool area has a toddler pool and play park which was great for our kids.
4) Dino cafe was great for coffee, lunch and dinner. Food quality was good, and heaps of tasty options.
5) Swim up pool bar was nice and service there was good.
6) Low key and casual so you can fully relax
7) Breakfast was great. Lots of options and good quality.
8) Checkout was easy.
9) Spa massage right on the beach was lovely!
Cons
1) Very poor WIFI - hard to work from this resort so bear that in mind if you plan on working on your break.
2) Lots of areas of the hotel are in need of repair - broken tiles at pool, uneven surfaces, broken roof tiles etc.
3) Lift near our room was out for some of our stay and due to being put on the 2nd floor with two kids 1 and 3 it was very hard to get around with the prams, meaning we had to walk the length of the hotel to use the other lift at the other side. I would say it’s not that pram friendly if the lift is out.
4) Lots of things closed when we were there - some restaurants, indoor play park, toilets near reception.
5) When I asked at reception about a baby change they said they didn’t have one, but then I found one downstairs near the chess game.
6) I bought my daughter a toy from the gift shop near the chess game and when we opened it there was chocolate inside and it had been kept on the side outside so the chocolate was mouldy and melted. When I told the lady about it she didn’t seem to care and didn’t apologise and when I said she should take them off sale because there are chocolates inside she didn’t and they were still sat there in the heat the next day.
7) My daughter contracted a tummy bug whilst staying at this hotel.
8) They charge you extra for everything.
9) Beach is covered in rubbish, which is a shame, but seems quite normal in Asia.
10) Water in the bathtub was yellow colour.
11) Kids club is for 4 up so my 3.5 year old was really upset she couldn’t join it, and there wasn’t really any other option for her.
12) Mini Mart didn’t sell basics we needed for the kids.
13) Service was basic the whole time we were there. We didn’t feel “looked after”
14) A lot of staff can’t speak English.
Would we go back? Probably not, we would try one of the other hotels in Bintan instead.
