Current staying for 4 nights at this lovely “local feel” resort. It is evident from the low occupancy that they are still recovering from their covid loss of visitors. Yes, there are some things still closed, as there just isn’t enough people to fill the 5 restaurants onsite but we had nice breakfasts and choice of 3 restaurants for dinner. Food was surprisingly delicious, as we didn’t expect it to be of such a high standard for an island resort (the new chef may have something to do with this, as we watched him training eager staff to meet his new expectations).
We weren’t impacted by the things still closed and in fact received great service from the plentiful staff on hand. Our room was clean and maintained, and serviced daily while we were at breakfast. It was just the two of us on the full day island tour, and we had efficient service in restaurants etc., and we did our best to keep the pool bar staff busy . Buggy hire to orientate us with the large grounds was fun.
Beach was cleaned daily by staff and immediate gardens around the hotel are immaculate.
Yes, they have some recovery still to happen and it still feels a bit “empty”but we are enjoying our stay and are actually glad for the lower guest numbers as we have received additional personal, friendly service from all the staff.

Here for a other day so shoot us any questions if you need.

Room tip: Travel on Emerald Class on ferry over as they handle the arrival formalities for you.

Hotel does not offer what is on the website. kids club is closed, only a very small children's room. beach club is abandoned and has no activities at sea, nor restaurant. simply a walk dad. Bad service from the staff at the Nirvana Gardens restaurant. waiters completely untrained, unwilling to work and clumsy. Very expensive service for what it offers.

Hotel facilities was decent. Rooms are fairly decent. But do note the restaurants are overpriced with below average food. And the worst experience came with the taxi booking. Not sure if it’s a hotel tactic, but the taxis are really hard to book and at times waiting time is about 1-2hours. Even when we requested to speak someone who can understand our need, no one arrived. We had to manually search on Google to provide them a taxi contact to book for us. Besides the beautiful beach access nothing else in this resort is quite worth the trip and price tag. The staffs were generally friendly and approachable, but the stay would be eventually get stale past the second day due to lack of things to do. The wifi was just the absolute worst of any hotel I have ever been to. Just a tactic to get guests to pay more (over the absurd price tag of the hotel) to get a better wifi which in fact isn’t any better.

Room tip: Avoid trying to book a cab or expect to travel around the island as there isn’t anything else to do.

The Nirwana Resort Hotel is a well appointed hotel on the beach with all the facilities you need. We travelled in a group of 5, 3 adults and 2 children (ages 1 and 3). We came the week before Christmas so the hotel was busy.

I wonder what this place was like pre Covid. It seems like the last three years have taken its toll and there doesn’t seem like much money invested in this resort.

Pros

1) Great location right on the beach.
2) Suite rooms are a great size and comfortable to stay in.
3) Pool area has a toddler pool and play park which was great for our kids.
4) Dino cafe was great for coffee, lunch and dinner. Food quality was good, and heaps of tasty options.
5) Swim up pool bar was nice and service there was good.
6) Low key and casual so you can fully relax
7) Breakfast was great. Lots of options and good quality.
8) Checkout was easy.
9) Spa massage right on the beach was lovely!

Cons

1) Very poor WIFI - hard to work from this resort so bear that in mind if you plan on working on your break.
2) Lots of areas of the hotel are in need of repair - broken tiles at pool, uneven surfaces, broken roof tiles etc.
3) Lift near our room was out for some of our stay and due to being put on the 2nd floor with two kids 1 and 3 it was very hard to get around with the prams, meaning we had to walk the length of the hotel to use the other lift at the other side. I would say it’s not that pram friendly if the lift is out.
4) Lots of things closed when we were there - some restaurants, indoor play park, toilets near reception.
5) When I asked at reception about a baby change they said they didn’t have one, but then I found one downstairs near the chess game.
6) I bought my daughter a toy from the gift shop near the chess game and when we opened it there was chocolate inside and it had been kept on the side outside so the chocolate was mouldy and melted. When I told the lady about it she didn’t seem to care and didn’t apologise and when I said she should take them off sale because there are chocolates inside she didn’t and they were still sat there in the heat the next day.
7) My daughter contracted a tummy bug whilst staying at this hotel.
8) They charge you extra for everything.
9) Beach is covered in rubbish, which is a shame, but seems quite normal in Asia.
10) Water in the bathtub was yellow colour.
11) Kids club is for 4 up so my 3.5 year old was really upset she couldn’t join it, and there wasn’t really any other option for her.
12) Mini Mart didn’t sell basics we needed for the kids.
13) Service was basic the whole time we were there. We didn’t feel “looked after”
14) A lot of staff can’t speak English.

Would we go back? Probably not, we would try one of the other hotels in Bintan instead.

Thanks for reading!
