We visited this part in September 2016. There is a nearby bus stop. But the bus service is not very regular (once in 2 hr or so). So either it required to walk around 15-20 min from bus stop of main road else it is required to have a car.
There are several colorful flowers in the part. However, if possible, it is advise to plan this during a day with clear weather conditions. We visited in a cloudy day, therefore, could not able to see the view of Mount Fuji from the park. Nonetheless, it is worthy to visit.

It's famous for flower garden, but you can see Mt. Fuji best around here.
花の都公園自体は入ったことがありませんが、この周辺で富士山を一番よく見られるのが公園周辺です。
じゃまな電柱などもなく、富士山をフルに堪能できるはず!

It is a mistake of me to choose to come to a park famous for flowers in Autumn. Worse still, I visited the place the day after a day of heavy snowfall. Yes, it is only Nov and yet Japan had this heavy snow. The entire ground was covered white . So are the trees and their red or golden leaves. One of the main attractions of the park is the so called "tree caves"., which I managed to visit and find it quite interesting. Years ago, when the volcano erupted, the lava covered up some fallen trees. Later, the tree decayed and the lava hardened up, leaving a cluster of tunnel-like caves. The park is large, and I am sure it is a perfect place for a family outing in Spring or Summer. To overseas visitors, the biggest reward is likely the unobstructed, full view of Mount Fuji.

Very nice flower park depending on seasons. Also light show during night times at selected season. By the way, this place is good for trip with younger kids. A must visit in Yamanashi area.

We spent there a couple of hours. You can rent a bike for 4, walk around, and there is a playground for kids 4-10. You can also have a coffee while your kids play, or take a small visit to the lava museum (very small).
