We visited this restaurant with my family of 2 adults and 4 children. It was an amazing experience. It is very quaint and the menu is absolutely delicious. My daughter has coeliac disease and they developed a gluten free menu for her! They were extremely accommodating and friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We were really looking forward to a hot bowl of noodles but came away disappointed.

We ordered soba noodles in soup.
Perhaps we are used to a certain style of Soba, as we found the texture of the soba a bit mushy and soft, not springy like we are used to. The soup I felt was a bit bland and I had to put spices in it.
We also ordered tempura but it did not come with a dipping sauce which we are used to.
The cheese gyoza is not worth ordering.

We loved our dinner at Zen last night especially the sashimi, soba noodles and kids favourite chicken dish. Service was amazing too. Highly recommend it!

Our hotel staff recommended we dine here, so we took their advice, and we are so glad that we did!

The service was great (all staff seemed to speak English quite well), the atmosphere was very Japanese, and the food was delicious!

We had spicy octopus (Korean style), grilled cheese gyoza, sashimi, soba pizza, tempura, and pork lettuce wraps. The total cost was about 5,600 yen (including drinks), and definitely worth it. More than enough for two people, and the quality of food was on point!

Highly recommend :)

Zen had been highly recommended, but ultimately we found it rather disappointing.

We were seated at Western-style table & chairs, though other rooms also had the Japanese-style low table and people squatting on the floor.

We had mixed dishes of tempura, Korean octopus, sweet omelette, soba noodles, aubergine with miso.

It may be that this is very authentic Japanese food, but for my (Western) tastes it lacked seasoning and flavour. The highlight was the Korean octopus: very flavoursome with crunchy chunks of veg (cucumber and daikon?) in a kimchi-style pickle. The broth with the soba noodles had a rich, complex flavour. The aubergine was good, but the tempura was disappointing: the batter had no flavour and was not crispy/crunchy, it was almost as if too many portions had been put in the cooking oil all at once cooling it down too much.

Each table had a small tin of nanami togarashi (7 spice mix): we added lots of this condiment to the tempura to give it flavour.

Staff were very friendly.
