The value of ryokans versus hotels is to be found in the attention of the O-Kami san. She has a gracious and informed calm omnipresence and Oyado Zuigetsu's O-Kami San is such a one.
The value of Oyado Zuigetsu extends then from her to the Ofuro (bath) and the very good Onsen waters, to the room, the details that surround you and then the room and the quite exceptional evening meal, of course served in your room, and then the equally good breakfast.
The other great value to Oyado Zuigetsu is Aramaki San, the Ryori-Cho (Executive Chef). He is the real deal, in his late 70's and whom has learnt his trade in the old school. He clearly loves the Way. Our menu was an extended story of early spring and each element was exacting, natural, served hot when it should be hot and on time with no pregnant pauses between servings. Breakfast was equally expressive. Oyado Zuigetsu's menu changes every month.
Oyado Zuigetsu is very good, very small, very clean and well maintained. There are only 5 rooms. We stayed in the Sakura room - and so should you.
