Lovely cosy setting but I ordered steak and it come out so tough it was ridiculous especially for the price.

Wasn’t keen on the food for the price and the quality of the food wasn’t good disappointed .

Stayed at the Crown for 2 nights just after it reopened. They'd taken lots of trouble to make it safe with one way system and lots of sanitizer. We stayed in room 210 which has views over the countryside and a large bathroom with full size quality toiletries and thick towels and a really spacious bath tub. Plenty of storage in room, and cupboard concealing hospitality tray with high quality products and fresh milk in the fridge. A welcome letter but missing the information pack you'd usually expect. Great night's sleep as so dark and quiet. Iron bed was nice to look at but bedhead really uncomfortable to lean against. Excellent breakfast especially the porridge and nice to have proper coffee. Only downside is having to go outside from accommodation block to main pub for meals. Great atmosphere mainly due to the lovely staff and because the Crown is well used by locals as well as visitors. We would definitely recommend.

Thank you very much for your post - it’s lovely for us to be able to welcome guests again and good to hear that you enjoyed your recent stay so much.
It’s very peaceful here and with the rooms in a separate building a short hop from the restaurant, you are guaranteed a quiet and restful time. Stoke by Nayland benefits from very little light pollution too so the night sky can be quite spectacular.

The staff are working hard to keep everyone safe while making sure the festive atmosphere is maintained all the way to Christmas (and beyond!). We are confident that we can adapt to whatever 2021 throws at us too!
We look forward to welcoming you back.

This pub does amazing food, the staff are great but they are not following the tier rules. Allowing people who do not live together to sit together. Not sure who is more to blame...The staff for not asking for proof of id and address or the customers! Either way its not fair on those following the rules correctly who know for a fact this virus is not a joke!!

hotel situated in rural location surrounded by open countryside and valley walks.
our room was brilliant, the bathroom nearly as big as the bedroom, very clean and well furnished, quality toiletries which were complimentary.
the restaurant and food were of the highest quality, both dinner and breakfast.
special mention to Diana and Nicola in reception and Abi in the restaurant who made our special stay memorable, quality people.

Room tip: book early

We had a late lunch today and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. All the starters were tasty and generous and the bread accompanying the soup was good .
Our main courses were hot and again tasty with excellent gravy.
Only two of us were naughty enough for a pudding...quite delicious .
Sitting outside but well protected from the cold by overhead covering and large heaters it was all fine ..enough fresh air ventilating us but warm and cosy . Thank you .

So glad you enjoyed your lunch in our Winter Garden - it’s really quite a magical space and will be wonderfully festive when we open again in December!
We look forward to seeing everyone once lockdown is over.
