A first visit to the Anchor with my family, so looking forward to a nice Sunday Lunch.
However, on arrival we stood in the reception area for at least ten minutes, pressing the bell for attention, No one came, so not exactly a great start and it was certainly not busy so why Staff did not come and deal with us is disappointing.
So as it was out first visit we really had no idea where to go, not wanting to sit in the public bar we eventually found a room. No menus on tables and again not approached by any staff despite them staring at us and very aware we were there. So off my daughter went on search of a menu.
Ok the food was just ok, nothing to write home about, you could possibly dismiss the very tired looking room we sat in if the food was amazing but sadly not too impressed.
So to summarise a tired looking place in need of some TLC, and certainly more staff training required, it maybe not high season anymore but is that a real reason to basically ignore you r customers ? Sorry wont be back and will certainly not be recommending to friends family and business colleagues

Hello Gordon, thank you for taking the time to write your review. I will share it with the team. Our Sunday lunches are normally a great time for folk to pop in and see us and enjoy a good meal. Its disappointing to you to hear you you did not enjoy your time with us, and I will make sure your comments are passed on.

We stayed for 4 nights and had a lovely room on top floor with 2 windows . Beautiful view and comfortable bed. The radiator wasn't working but we had 2 heaters in the room so we were very cosy. Breakfasts were huge and freshly cooked. Very tasty and kept you going all day. Food in bar was good. A bit annoyed we couldn't book a table in the cosy bar with the coal fire.......you had to have a dog if you wanted to book!!! However we always got a table as it was a quieter time of the year. The staff were lovely....chatty and cheerful. Hope to come back

Fabulous food and ambience. The atmosphere in the bar was lovely, comforting and cheerful too. Popped in for lunch with our wee dog Molly, and were delighted that the hotel approved of dogs in the bar. We had had a few problems in the area regarding taking the dog into pub bars, and were delighted that this was the norm at the Anchor Hotel at Kippford. The quality of the food was good and it was delivered promptly. All in all we were pleased with our lunch and would return should be return to this area. Will certainly recommend it to friends/family who are going to this area next summer.

Room Tip: Unsure as we were in the hotel for a meal only but others said all rooms were great

We ate at the Anchor last night and had an excellent meal. The fire was lit and the atmosphere in the bar was so friendly and welcoming. It is always nice to be recognised as a returning customer even though it had been a few weeks since our last visit. We had the meatballs and the chicken sizzler and they were excellent, the house wine was perfect and relatively inexpensive. Suggest you go early to ensure you get a table.

Room Tip: Phone ahead and ask for a sea view

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. Its always lovely to see folk come back, and yes we do get busy - so would agree your recommendation to come early as we don't take bookings and will serve folk as they come in. Best wishes from The Anchor, hope to see you again before too long.

Hotel is tired and in need of a refurb both inside and out. Room was clean but small. Bathroom towels were 'hard' and old. Heating in the room was via old electric heaters; room was cold on entry. Breakfast was good. Food ok. Owners are trying to sell the Hotel as a Leasehold and sadly this is reflected in its overall tired appearance. There is an offer at the Hotel for a two night winter stay, with full breakfast, which at £90 (if recalled correctly) is worth the booking... but sadly can't recommend paying the full daily price.

Hello there, thank you for your review. We are indeed very lucky with our location and we do try hard to make sure everyone has a pleasant stay with us. The owners, who live at the hotel, have worked tirelessly over the last 16 years to provide a place which is comfy to stay in and serves great food. We encourage everyone who loves the countryside to visit us and we hope the warmth of our welcome will make them want to return. Thank you for visiting us and all best wishes from The Anchor.
