We stayed at the lovely Banyan Bay Villas for 4 nights in the Orchid Villa. It was an extremely comfortable and roomy villa. The traditional design is really beautiful. The bed was very comfortable and the fans did a great job at night time. There were mosquito nets supplied but they were not used or necessary. We slept extremely well on all nights. The local troop of monkeys passed behind the Villa every day supplying much amusement. The beach at the property is just stunning. Plenty of trees to hide under to shade from the sun while lying on the beautiful bamboo beach bed. The water is free from rocks, unlike many other areas of Koh Jum, making swimming delightful. You did have to pick the tides as it does go out a lot at low tide. The available free kayaks are a lot of fun.
We ate at the restaurant 3 of the 4 nights. The food was superb. All dishes we ordered were made with obvious care and attention to detail. It seemed to be very authentic fresh Thai food. The wine selection was very good. All prices in the restaurant were extremely reasonable. We ate at a Koh Jum seafood on the other night on recommendation from the staff, and it also was superb.
We hired mopeds from the hotel and they were in great condition. You don't really need them but they were great to have a look around the island.
All the staff were so very friendly and helpful. Nai was a standout, she obviously really enjoys her job and does it so well.
Kitima, the owner, was such a great person to meet. She just loved a laugh, and loved her property, and also you could see the care she had for all her staff and guests. She had such an great ethical outlook on the resort, her staff and the island.
Oh and we can't forget Kitima's dogs, Banchee and Mila. What happy and silly dogs. They enjoy their life.
Our visit to Koh Jum was fantastic, made more so by where we stayed.
Hope to see you next year.
