The kind of hospitality the Dhami family provides is so fantastic you never want to go home! Staying at the Orchard Hut offers a truly authentic and beautiful experience that captures everything you would want from a trip to the Himalayas- peace and quiet, a place to relax and rejuvinate in a natural healthy environment away from the noisy towns - (which means a bit of a walk up the hill, but it's worth it!) an amazing selection of home-cooked local food with flavour but not over spiced, trekking options whatever your level of fitness, yoga and meditation, a natural spring pool to take a cleansing dip, visit the local Chamba town, then come home to a comfy bed with soft pillows. The whole Dhami family combine a high level of education and modernity with humble down to earth family values and treat their guests with such warmth and respect you will never want to leave! The other tourist locations of Manali and Dharamsala are full of tourists and garbage and could easily be missed off your itinerary in favour of a longer stay at Orchard Hut.

An amazing experience at the Himalayan Orchard Huts....went to unwind as also to explore the beautiful Chamba Valley. I can say with certainty that I couldn’t have made a better choice. Right from the word go the warmth of the Dhami family was unmistakeable in all aspects of hospitality, be it assistance with regard to bookings and guidance in order to reach their wonderful property perched high up above the Saal river which flows down from the Pir Panjals to meet the Ravi river at Chamba to the warm traditional welcome on arriving after a long motorcycle ride.
What gets to you most once you reach Himalaya Orchard huts is their true to itself theme “Back to Nature” which Mr Dhami propagates with a lot of enthusiasm and why not, after all we all are in our busy routines forgetting most.
The delectable traditional cuisine, the interesting conversations and the homely feeling plus the clean and simple living arrangements are all that one could ask for. My aim to explore Chamba also was fulfilled by the vast experience that Mr Dhami had to share and the excellent advice by his much travelled son Vinayak which helped me make the best of my four day trip.
Himalayan Orchard huts has to offer a multitude of activities ranging from organic farming which the family does with pride, yoga, cooking lessons, to day hikes and camping in the area as also various adventure activities all over Himanchal Pradesh. Or simply just relax and chat with the Dhamis enjoying the lovely ambience of the place.
I must also mention Mr Dhami’s wonderful grandchildren Krishna and Roopashi whose company is equally enjoyable..with their energy, warmth and inquisitiveness..the kids are growing up in the right environment.
A must go place for anyone who loves the mountains, their difficulty yet simplicity and needs to reconnect with nature for certain rejuvenation.

I spent 2 nights at the Himalayan Orchard Huts and 2 nights at Ridgemoor Cottage, also part of their property in November. The Dhami family are incredibly hospitable making you feel like part of the family and Mrs. Dhami is the most amazing cook. The best Indian home cooking I have ever had. The property is peaceful and scenic. There is a little bit of a hike up hill to get to the Orchard Huts but of course that is why it is so quiet and serene. Accommodation is simple but very comfortable and clean. Lots of hot water and internet access.

This is time I also hiked up to Ridgemoor Cottage for a couple of days which was fantastic. Amazing scenery and beautiful location. The cottage is simple but comfortable, the food was excellent, the guide, porter and cook all incredibly accommodating and helpful. Highly recommend.

The Dhami family welcome guests to their amazing home, with panoramic views, organic farm, trekking routes from your doorstep, and the most incredible food I've eaten in all of India. This homestay is truly unique, and just a short drive or picturesque walk away from Chamba town, filled with history, temples and culture. There is so much to choose from to do here, and would suit travellers and tourists looking for a taste of the real Himalayas. You can get involved with activities at the house (cooking lessons, churning butter, yoga etc), you can help out on the farm with the crops and animals, trek up to the familiy's Ridgemore Cottage, and get a taste of life at higher altitude amongst stunning nature, practice and learn about yoga, or just relax amidst the beauty of it all and enjoy your time here. The nearby villages and temples are also fascinating and the family can help you to organise anything you wish to do. I'm so glad that I stumbled across this homestay! As a postgraduate researcher looking for a traditional Himalayan family to live with whilst studying in India, the Dhamis have been my saviours. They have allowed me to live them long-term, welcomed me into their family, and help me with my studies and the language. I feel a part of the family and they have gone to great lengths to look after me. Definitely one of the best places to stay as a solo female too. So if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of it all, and get a taste of the peace and culture of Himalayan life, this is the place for you. By bus, train or taxi (and the family can help book your transport), this paradise and the welcoming family will be the highlight of your trip! There is also a wide variety of rooms and prices negotiable to suit all budgets.
