We were recommended this restaurant for dinner but didn’t book and unfortunately the restaurant was full. However we were able to order off the restaurant menu and eat in the lounge bar which was great lovely seafood dishes and desserts. A very pleasant evening. Staff very accommodating.

Thank JillFin

As a starter with have broccoli and stilton soup , it was alright . The bread on offer was awful. For the main course one of us who has chosen the fish it was burnt chips and i mean really burnt chips they were black.... and for me who chose the lamb it was a very tough lamb and the vegetable with it were overcooked and greasy.

We had walked past one day and seen the blackboard outside, which tempted us, so the next day we popped in during the afternoon, the blackboard wasn't there so we thought we had better check that they were serving that night and whether we needed to book. The man on reception was grumpiest person we had encountered so far on our holiday, he didn't stop what he was doing (Folding cloths) to talk to us and abruptly told us the restaurant was full and the bar was first come first served. We tried to make conversation and to enquire what the specials were,if they were the same as seen on the board before, he just said yes there will be specials. We left and when we got outside both said he had put us off, sorry Scalloway hotel but he didn't give a good first impression.

Oh dear, Melanie. I'm really sorry you weren't given a more welcoming reception, and that you never got the chance to dine with us. Our hotel's reputation is built on great food and friendly service, so it's really disappointing when we don't come up to scratch. I'm not sure if this was a case of the "comically miserable" barman ( see earlier review) striking again. If it was, I don't blame you for not being amused: neither am I.

Surroundings were very good and the meal started

The meal began well with the starters of mussels in garlic and cream sauce. The bread served with the mussels was home made and could not be faulted. It was the main course of roast lamb that let the whole experience down. The lamb was served in two not very big slices and was mostly fat, in fact the fat more or less made up one slice of meat. I am not sure what cut of lamb this was - it certainly was not leg or shoulder, and definitely not any kind of chop. The vegetables of parsnips, roast potatoes, roast carrots or sweet potatoes (not sure which) small amount of cabbage with bacon (or ham), and butter mash were, apart from the mash, very poor - the parsnips were hard and hardly cooked at all. All in all the Main was an experience not to be repeated.

This revue is on the dish we were served and not having experienced the other dishes I could not comment.

The surroundings themselves were pleasant and the staff were efficient, friendly and helpful.

We are in the bar cos the atmosphere felt better. Very busy, but we were happy to wait. Food was lovely, but they could have done with a few more staff
