My husband and I spent 5 nights (May 21-26). The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and the views were stunning. We stayed in their new large lofts which had a balcony and a swing overlooking the rain forest. It also had a large tub with floor to ceiling glass surrounding it so you can enjoy the views while taking a bath.
We had a couples massage at the spa. The therapists were both amazing. The spa had a jacuzzi, pool, cold waterfall, small gym and a quiet/lounge area with a very relaxing atmosphere. Almost everywhere you go, you can’t ignore the beautiful views.
Boca Dulce Restaurant: The food was phenomenal/5 star! It is a farm-to-table restaurant as they have a farm and organic garden onsite. Such a beautiful balance of flavors with unique vegetarian dishes. Yes, they did serve fish, poultry or red meat during certain meals. However, if you wanted extra protein added to your vegetarian dishes, you can add upon request. Shout out to their onsite chef Alvaro, kitchen staff and servers. We mostly interacted with Karina and Jonathan who were very attentive and provided excellent service. We had a cooking class with Alvaro who showed us the magic behind the scenes. You can also ask for any of the recipes. We emailed them after we returned home so hopefully they respond back with those delicious recipes :-) This was my birthday trip so the chef made a special cake for me on the morning of my birthday. It was such a nice touch!
Alejandro: He was our guide during our 5K nature hike down crystal quartz mountain. Alejandro was a wealth of information regarding the flora and fauna surrounding the property. We also went on an all day excursion to Manuel Antonio National Park. Both days were sunny so we were lucky given that it was rainy season.
May is part of the rainy season so we expected that going in. When it did rain, it would rain intermittently but it was quite refreshing. When it cleared up, the sunsets were awesome. Another plus is that it washed away the bugs for awhile. Expect to see flying little bugs around. The first day we had a lot in our room but I think it’s because housekeeping may have had the door open too long plus they are attracted to light. After the first day, it wasn’t that bad and only a few got in so it was manageable. My husband and I would make sure to quickly shut the door when we went back to the room :-) This IS the rain forest, bugs are to be expected and if anything they are more annoying than harmful.
One evening, we saw a Coati taking a nap on the balcony swing. It was actually very cute but we watched from inside the room as we didn’t dare to get too close. Alejandro had mentioned that Coatis are not aggressive animals but if approached they might bite (like any other wild animal).
Depending on where your room is, the grounds can be very steep to walk on especially if you are heading to the main building to eat. My husband and I didn't mind as it was a good work out for us.
I hadn’t done yoga in years but took 2 classes and the instructor had great energy. She was gentle, patient and very thorough while talking through each pose.
Covid Test: Since a test is needed to return to the U.S., we scheduled our tests which they do onsite. A technician from the lab comes at 7:00 AM. It takes a half day to get your results so we did ours 1 day before our scheduled flight. This was definitely a plus as we didn’t have to worry about searching for a place to get tested.
Another shout out to the guys at the front desk! Always quick to help or respond to any needs. Overall, all staff were friendly, warm, professional and attentive. We will definitely return to this little slice of heaven.
