This is a stunning and beautiful tribute to our fallen heroes. It made us miss our fathers very much and made for very strong emotions and more than a few tears. We must never forget what our fathers went through to protect our freedom.

My experience at this cemetery brought tears to my eyes thinking of all of the souls resting here that never made it home again. All of the white marble cross grave markers are perfectly aligned and stand in stark contrast to the lush green grass which blankets and protects our fallen heroes. The cemetery curator who guided us through the grounds asked that we touch at least one grave marker and say a few words because these soldiers had no visitors and were completely alone.

Above the graves is a memorial building that houses a chapel, the Tablets of the Missing inscribed with 1,409 names, and several marble operations maps. Our tour guide timed our trip to the cemetery so that we could participate in the flag lowering/closing ceremony. Volunteers from our group were lined up at the bottom of the flag pole and received the American flag as it was lowered. They then folded the flag and stood for pictures. Every single person in our group shed tears for the poor soldiers interred there and for the supreme sacrifices they made for us.

Highly recommend this side trip when in or near Florence. Peaceful, moving, educational, and a beautiful resting place. The marble operations maps at the top of the slope depict WW II campaigns from Sicily to northern Italy. The grounds are impeccably maintained.

We made a quick stop while traveling from Florence to San Gimignano. It was absolutely worth it. The grounds are beautifully manicured with wide walkways. You hear the sound of the nearby river, the wind in the trees, and the birds singing. It's moving to see the care and respect paid to those who gave their life to secure Italy's freedom.

Nice bathrooms as well.
