Review of Aliwagwag Falls

Aliwagwag Falls

A day-trip from Davao City with family and friends. Aliwagwag Falls EcoPark is a very refreshing stop. Picnic tables are provided. And for a few pesos you can cross the falls on a "monkey bridge". Note, the hike to the monkey bridge is moderately strenuous, not for everyone.

1) The waterfalls are one of the best that I have seen in the whole Philippines.
2) The waterfalls are just a stone's throw away from the highway. You can view the cascades from the road.
3) The facilities of Aliwagwag Falls Eco-Park are very good. There are very decent and well-designed guest-houses and dining areas. There are sufficient parking spaces for vehicles, especially buses. There is even a souvenir shop and canteens. The entrance/registration booth is well-designed. The bathrooms are very clean. The toilets near the souvenir shop are surprisingly decent, like the ones you see in some hotels. There are even wood carvings in the facade/signs at the park, very classy. The road going to Aliwagwag Falls is well-maintained and concreted. You don't expect to see such good facilities in a typical remote area.

I commend the efforts of the local government of Cateel and the tourism office of Davao Oriental. They have done a great job in making this destination one of the best. They have set a standard in terms of architectural design, sufficiency, and cleanliness of facilities.

I've seen a lot of waterfalls and this one is one of the best I've seen. It has been dubbed as the "stairway to heaven" with its 127 tiers, 21 of which reachable by trail. At the end of the trail, there is a monkey bridge that you can try for 50 pesos. It's just beside the road so trekking is not needed. You have to be early if you want to get a picnic table and take photos without the crowd. We didn't bring food at the time, but there are eateries accross the street so food won't be a problem.

Entrance Fee: 100 pesos/head
Monkey line: 50 pesos

Good:
One of the most beautiful place I've been! The water was clean and cold! It is well maintained by their government! Good job! The structures mounted mixed well with the natural beauty of the place!

Bad:
Travel time - If you're doing it solo like me. It will take arounf 35 mins to get there from Cateel town via Habal-habal/Motorcycle ride. Cost of trip 400-500 vice versa. The driver will wait for you while you enjoy! :)

If your in the Davao / Tagum area Aliwagwag is the perfect place th spend the day. Get there by 9am to get picnic table(s). Area is well maintained although some of the showers need attention. The zip line was closed the day we went but we did the monkey bridge which was fun. The drive from Monticello is spectacular with sweeping vistas. There were 3 CAFGU check points enforcing security. The road is being improved from the west so in the future it will be an easy drive.
