Solway Holiday Village
Reviewed 3 September 2011

Firstly I would like to say we stayed here as it was a last minute decision to go away for the last week of the holidays and it was all Hoseasons had available.

This is how Hoseasons decsribes the holiday park
"Situated in one of the most beautiful corners of England, Solway Holiday Village offers you the perfect setting for your family holiday, and is ideally situated for exploring the Northern Lakes and Hadrian’s Wall There is something for everyone, with the emphasis on families. There are good facilities, including a fabulous indoor fun pool and all-weather football. Silloth is a peaceful Victorian seaside resort surrounded by lovely countryside and ideally situated for short breaks and touring"

This could not be further from the truth and feel that Hoseasons have let us down having had some wonderful holidays with them.

On arrival the holiday park looked like an abandoned shed site. The chalets looked horrifying. On entering the chalet the interior was awful, the bathroom had a horrid smell as the floor was green and mouldy. The hot tub had a fence built tightly around it which didn't look particularly enjoyable, pleasant or relaxing!
We decided to go for a look around the site to see if it could make us feel any better and the site just looked depressing, the food was horrible and over priced. The drinks were also expensive. The atmosphere was depressing as everyone looked utterly miserable. We decided to go back to our chalet and we left the site the following morning, however Solway would not give us a full refund and took one nights pay from us, disgusting!

The surrounding area is also dirty and rough. There was a small fair and one pub as the others were boarded up. No where nice to go for a nice meal or an enjoyable day out. Silloth is not a beautiful town as described, it looked more like the chav capital of England.

I could only best describe this as a set from shameless and that is doing shameless a disservice. Please stay away from this place if you want a holiday, however if youre into self punishment then this is the place for you

After reading the reviews on here, I must admit I was not looking forward to be going, however it wasn't that bad at all! The staff on arrival were very cheery and helpful. We stayed in a Buttermere plus chalet with hot tub - it was a very spacious chalet and hot tub was brill! Main pool was clean and ideal size for my little ones not too deep. Entertainment was great for the kids AJ was the best!
We didn't spend alot, drinks were greatly priced especially the Kids Slush's £1.05 each (compared to Haven £1.75). I couldn't believe the price of the train ride 50p for children! We were on the train trip for nearly an hour - well worth the money! The only thing I would improve is the state of the place decor wise - it really could do with a lick of paint and updating needed please!

Apart from the very spacious and comfortable lodge with hot tub, i'm afraid i have to agree with everyone else. Very run down, attention to outdoor play area, crazy golf and general condition of the site is desperately needed. My 3 year old daughter enjoyed the adjourning farm with all the animals and my teenage boys enjoyed the pool tables and tennis courts. But again, we found ourselves going off the site and finding other things to do. Definitely stick to Haven in future.

Room Tip: recommend the lodge

This has to be the worst "holiday park !!!" in the UK!!!
We arrived and were charged £10 to book in early to our Buttermere Chalet Plus.
In the chalet the hot tub was being filled - we expected to use it the first day however were unable to do so as it did not get up to temperature until sunday morning.
Our teenage sons then went to use the gym but were told it was closed all week. on the sunday the children went to hire bikes but were told that they were not available - after a discussion with the manager the bikes were made available however they were in very poor condition - a chain and a pedal came off !!! - we went to return these to find that reception had closed - it was 5.45pm- in high season !!! To top it all we went to play grazy golf and you would have to be crazy to do so - Falling to pieces and lots of nails and screws sticking out - A total hazard !!! Luckily we had booked through Hoseasons and once we made them aware of the situation they arranged to transfer our booking to Stanwix Park - from the ridiculous to the sublime - Stanwix is a wonderful site for a family holiday - great staff, facilites and entertainment - thankyou Stanwix Park for saving ou holiday !!!

The chalet we had had obviously been refitted recently. It was clean, comfortable and warm. The site is an excellent base for exploring. Superb cycling nearby and plenty of birdwatching. The pool is a bit small but big enough and the entertainment is a bit hi-de-hi. Ok if you like that sort of thing.

They are making a real effort to make this site welcoming and it really works. Good value for money and great for families

Room Tip: Clean warm and comfortable
