Bula! Oarsman's Bay Lodge is in a stunning location. We arrived to friendly staff singing to us. We had our own cabin with a huge bed, bathroom which included and outside shower and windows that let the sea breeze air out the room. When it came to food, there was breakfast, lunch and dinner. There were no menus, you eat what the resort cooks for you, no exceptions. It seemed like a long time between lunch and dinner, though you could buy snacks at a high price. You will need to pay for all your meals at the end of your trip, whether you eat them or not, at what I thought was at an exorbitant rate. The resort had daily activities including all the seaside activities you would expect. Most activities run on Fijian time, so make sure you are not in any rush, because the staff are certainly not. All in all, it was a lovely place to relax and visit at a very high cost, so make sure you save plenty before visiting the islands.

Amazing beach and good enough rooms, comfortable, basic (no minibar). No ice, very limited bar selection, warm beers. Some of the staff are amazing, but you don't see them often. The guy who is the main point of contact for guests is really clear on his announcements at dinner time, however, he will barely speak to you during the day, won't answer questions clearly about what to do, activities, and so on. Very laid back service, very 'Fiji Time' except check-out time. Somewhat chaotic and disorganized regarding times for activities and meals. But you get a sense they are very kind people, it's a small resort and although Blue Lagoon Resort next doors is always booked out, at Oarsmans they don't have many guests, every one eat together, you really meet the people, which was great! A kiwi who lives next door hires a small Hobbie Cat sailboat, which was great fun. The food is nearly OK, we didn't eat local food (no fish), they only offered us chicken, beef, a pork roast (very fatty) and cheap lamb sausages. Couldn't believe we didn't have fijian fish, which is amazing and widely available everywhere else we went - They charge nearly the same as the other upper class resorts that offer a great variety of food in better quality and quantity. Not a great value really. Other foreign owned places will be better value but without the 'local owned' appeal, which really translates into limited service.

Oarsman' Bay Lodge has a stunning, white sand beach, with a great reef to snorkel. We had a tidy and cute bure on the beach. The staff are all friendly with great customer service. This resort is owned and run by the local village.

Wifi is $10 FJD a night but is dodgy. The compulsory meal plan is $98 FJD per person a day. The food, however, is FANTASTIC. Although you don't have a choice in what you get, it is a sit down meal brought out to you. Great food and great serving sizes! There is free, safe drinking water in the common area.

Our prepaid Blue Lagoon snorkelling trip was a bit of a let down. They just took us to a reef, next door, and let us swim around. We might as well have just gone off our own beach.

We loved the cave trip. That was well worth the money.

We would definitely stay here again!

We arrived at this resort wishing we were somewhere else (the resort next door but we were too late booking) but we soon came to love this place. From the great food (most of the time), lovely staff to the brilliant Bure that was our home for 4 nights along with the most amazing beach!

Our Bure was large enough that it had a queen size double and a single bed (so perfect for a small family) with a good bathroom and a shower room. There was a fan and air conditioning.

The staff were lovely and couldn't be more helpful. Food is $99 a day and drinks are quite expensive so purchase at happy hour.

** BE AWARE** 25% tax is added to all purchases except the compulsory food. This was the only resort we were charged tax on top of advertised prices. They are trying to resolve this situation apparently...

The beach here is the crowning glory. Its beautiful. White sand and amazing turquise waters.

Fell in love with this place

Room Tip: If you can afford it opt for a Bure over the dorm

We stayed at Oarsmans at the beginning of our Fiji-Tour for three nights.
First, the beach is really good, nice sand and good for swimming. The staff was friendly, helpfull and with a big smile all the time.
Food was good, special requests not a problem at any time.
We stayed in a Bure, well maintained and cleaned every day, decorated with fresh flowers.
If we return to Fiji, it would be a good idea to stay there ahain...
Vinaka:)
