We stayed at Eden resort & spa for our honeymoon. It was amazing- all staff were the friendliest and most helpful people i have ever met.

The hotel was lovely, and the country even nicer! The Spa was fantastic, and the pool area very clean. Our room was really nice- with a great view and great service.

We would DEFINATLY come back here!!!

I booked our wedding &honeymoon through Dawn at Miles Morgan Travel (wonderful lady). We picked the gold wedding package which included many goodies & a boat trip.

We looked at Sri Lanka as a wedding destination as I had been told it's one of the most beautiful places in the world. (This is true!).

We arrived in time for breakfast and were shown our room. We had a Superior Room which was lovely. Cool, with a large bed, with cotton sheets and a large bathroom. (Everything is marble). There was a mini bar which is a necessity as you cannot drink the tap water. We had French doors which lead out to our own sitting area. The pool boys would bring us loungers and towels when they saw us. They also cleared “our area” if anyone else sat in it.

Imesha my wedding co-ordinator went through the wedding with me - I ordered all the extras. Hairdresser & makeup, selected the flowers plus video etc. We were taken to the local mps house to sign all the documents leading up to the wedding.

After a meal in the fine dining restaurant we had a number of concerns regarding the wedding dinner which we had made into a group booking. Imesha took what we were saying onboard, we went through the menu and the chef came and talked to my future husband & me. This took a lot of effort on their part as we kept disappearing off to the beach and exploring. The morning of the wedding the chef again announced to me that he was doing something extra special for us.

Imesha was wonderful, she dealt with wedding nerves, a problem we encountered in the hairdressers and a hilarious ride on the beautiful elephant.

The wedding in short was a wonderful, happy event; I couldn't stop smiling. It was a Buddhist ceremony and the dancers and singers were beautiful. The minister and mp were perfect. It was our perfect wedding! My family and friends had a lovely time.

The dinner was absolutely magical the hotel had pulled out all the stops at one point we had more waiting staff than guests. The Chef produced the most amazing food, fresh, perfect and beautifully presented. We had the meal in outside in the gazebo…

Tips and Hints: this is a 5 star in Sri Lankan terms! It is not luxurious and please do not expect it to be.
Sri Lankans are extremely polite if you have a problem speak quietly and reasonably and they will do their best.
The boys/men on the beach are friendly; they do not necessarily want your money they often like to chat. If they try and sell you an excursion tell them you went yesterday.
My family and I bought beach sarongs for a few pounds from the ladies on the beach – this sometimes is their only income. When you walk onto the beach turn right and further up there are some beach huts. Apart from tourist bits and bobs, there is a seamstress who can make you many clothes for a fantastic price.
Take a boat trip to the Mangroves and do the turtle sanctuary... Take a hat, sunscreen, a shirt to cover up from the sun, plus Mozie repellent!! Use therepellent at night if you go out in the evening or if mozzies like you!

If you want to stay in a clean hotel and have a relaxing holiday, then go else where. This was a calamity from start to finish. The poor repair of the spa area, the filth and the lac of choice. The rooms are so dated, this is not normally an issue if they are clean and well looked after, however this is not the case here. Check the pool for glass before you go into it as there was a lot there when we were there.
Watch out for the dead Fly's on the window cil's and around the cooking plate by the buffet, ensuring non of them get into you food.
I can not express in words how totally awful this place is.

If you walk down the beach you will see lovely B&B's then you can see the contrast even more.

We did read other comments prior to booking and figured everyone deserved a chance, however that is something we deeply regret now.

Hope this helps

we stayed at the eden resort for 8 nights in december as part of our xmas holiday, i was a bit worried about going after some of the negative reviews we had read on here, its a very poor country and the hotel gradings are different to say dubai for instance, id say it was a 4 star, not got a bad word to say about the place, reception, barmen, security and cleaners are all brill, they will do anything to help you, room was really clean, nice pool, breakfast was good, when we got up for it , we were only b&b so we ate out everynite, not 1 bad meal, food was great everywhere we went, people can not do enough for you, it needs more tourists as i beleve it as gone very quiet since that bad day on 26-12-2004, people are suffering with th loss of custom, still no matter how hard they are finding life they are always smiling,

We went to kandy for 1 nite, visited the elephant orphanage which was amazing, feeding elephants was good, went on an elephant ride, temple of tooth which was struck by suicide bombers in 99, you wouldnt think so now looking at it, its amazing, then onto nuru ella which is named little england as thats were the brits lived during our time there, golf coarse, horseracing track, it really was like a village had been picked up in england and put in sri lanka, the waterfalls are out of this world, couldnt beleve it when my battery had died on my camera, wasted it takin pics of the monkeys round kandy,

we also went to the turtle hatchery, 5 mins down the road in tuk tuk, holding turtles that were only a day old, theres 1 with a fin missing and an albino one to,

sorry for rabbiting on but we enjoyed the whole holiday in sri lanka, and i want people to be sure of there choice to go there as it really is a brilliant place, brilliant people and we had a brilliant holiday

We flew with Sri Lankan Airlines and got excellent service.

After a LONG transfer to Eden (particularly tiring considering the long flight we had just got off of) we arrived early evening at the Eden Resort. Transfer was a slog due to the relentless traffic but if you arrive during the day you get to see the country.
We arrived to a very warm welcome, check in was very easy and very prompt, there were 7 of us in total. Luggage quickly found its way to our rooms. 2 members of our family had arrived the day before and had no complaints.

We stayed in superior room 122, all superior rooms are on the ground floor. The rest of the family stayed in Eden rooms, everyone was extremely happy with their accomodation. We all arrived to find pretty flower arrangements on our beds.

We went straight to dinner where staff had arranged a table large enough to accomodate all 9 of us; this was prepared every night during our stay, without us asking. The waiting staff were so attentive and so very friendly. From day one there was always a varied choice of food, meals were predominantly curry but other choices were available and equally delicious.

Our wedding co-ordinator, Janaki was so very helpful. We had one main meeting with her to discuss bouquets, cake and photos etc, if there was anything else she needed to discuss with us she would come and find us during the week. Completing the paperwork with the Registrar was easy and very quick.

A family meal was arranged for the night of the wedding, this was held in the outdoor pavillion which was very private and romantic. Food was provided by the in-house Temptations restaurant and was of an exceptional standard, certainly what you expect to pay a lot of money for in the UK. As part of the wedding package we also enjoyed a candle-lit meal in Temptations the following night.

Hotel was only at 70% capacity. Due to the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India many people had cancelled which we found astounding, its a whole different country away! However those tourists' loss was our gain as the hotel was lovely and quiet particularly in the gardens and around the pool. Only let down was that the beach was not for sun-bathing nor the sea for swimming in due to the currents, however we found the pool perfectly adequate and would still enjoy a cool breeze coming from the beach.

Wedding itself couldn't have been made more special by Eden. My hair was styled by the in-house hair salon (see picture). The seperate arrival of the bridal and groom's party were well choreographed so we didn't bump into each other. Ceremony was approximately an hour long and so very special, even moving a very proud father-of-the-bride to tears. No magic or meaning was lost due to the language barrier. As well as the traditonal Sri Lankan wedding rituals you also exchange the normal English vows. Following the ceremony was the elephant ride, very daunting and logistically difficult in a traditional wedding dress but we made it none-the-less and really enjoyed the experience. Felt like celebrities sitting on top having our photos taken by some of the other guests..

With the genuine warmth and hospitality of the staff we had a truly wonderful time, my husband and I would have no hesitation in recommending Sri Lanka and particularly the Eden for a wedding. We never felt that the excellent service was any less than genuine, they could not do enough for you. Staff are a credit to the hotel. Any pre-conceived concerns we had vanished on our arrival, this goes for our family too several of whom have not visited a third world country as a holiday destination.

My family were lucky enough to travel to Pinnuewela Elephant Orphanage and really enjoyed this. Unfortunately I had caught the flu the day before we travelled out and was not well enough to go; we are planning to return to explore Sri Lanka more.

After a week at the Eden we transferred to Komandoo in the Maldives for our honeymoon.
