Some pro's and con's with this hotel. First, we love hotels like this which has a lot of character and ambiance. They don't have to be in tip top shape and I can't say that our room was in tip top shape but it didn't matter. It seems that maybe some rooms are more renovated than ours (103) when I look at the photos.
I would absolutely stay here again. The only reason I would NOT stay here, is that it is quite far from everything. A car is a MUST (make sure to reserve one before you arrive). It takes about 30 minutes to drive from the airport (we took a taxi first evening and it was EUR50). It took close to an hour to drive to the beach Les Salines and to St Anne and Le Marin.
It is really hard to get a taxi and it seems you can't get one without a lot of notice. And it is expensive. There is no beach by the hotel so you have to drive. The staff is helpful and will get you a taxi but sounded like you have to book it up to 24 hours in advance.
The main room was very nice with a large bed and cute decorations. It had a balcony with a stunning view of the ocean. The main room was very nice with a large bed and cute decorations. It had a balcony with a stunning view of the ocean. We didn't use the balcony at all except to hang our bathing suits to dry but it would have been a nice spot for a drink. The lock to the balcony didn't work but there was a screen to pull down + it was on the 2nd floor so we weren't really concerned about it (and also didn't bring it up with management).
The bathroom could do with an update. We didn't have hot water the first morning but after that, there was no problem. Maybe we did something wrong the first morning.
The room was cleaned everyday and everything was fresh and clean.
The restaurant is lovely and we had one of our best meals here. The seating is by the pool and the light and ambiance is lovely. And it seems like a popular spot even for non hotel guests. There is a small bar as well. We could absolutely have had more meals here but we wanted to see more places. We often had a drink here before or after dinner and it was lovely.
The breakfast is not included (EUR10 per person). There were a lot of options (juice, coffee, tea, croissants, bread, toast, ham, pastries, desserts, eggs, yogurt, granola, cereal, fresh fruit and more). You have breakfast by the pool and it is a very nice start to the day.
The staff is friendly but very few speak any English - but it works anyway. They try.
I absolutely recommend Hotel Fregat Bleue - as long as you have a car and don't expect luxury but if you want a hotel with ambiance and personality, then this is a great find.
If you want another dinner option, we recommend going for dinner at La Ferme des Orchidees au Francois one night which is a short drive away. Make a reservation.More
